What are you talking about? Only goes down to 3rd but it is in the first position? How can that be? It is a ratchet shifter. The shifter is in that position no matter what gear it is in. You say you can get it up to fifth but it will only go back to third. Does that mean you had it in first gear once and can't ever get it to go back to first? Does the shifter stop at third and not move after that? I need to know these things in order to be able to give you the proper answer. As for the oil; the kind of oil it takes is 10W30 motor oil. It is the same oil that you put in a car engine. That is what kind of oil your motorcycle transmission takes.
