SUV-tards

The whole bad driver's rant, it's a classic....it really is!

I used to own a scooter, 50cc peice of shite, top speed 45mph down a steep hill with a strong wind behind me. I noticed that even in 30mph zones i got overtaken regularly-by everyone. This is not just drivers of SUV's, no...this was EVERYONE. People can't stand driving behind a moped/scooter/perice of crap, it infruriates them, even if i did 40mph in a 30 zone i would still get overtaken  In the riding to work and back each day i could count on two hands the number of fuckers to wrapped up in themselves and their pathetic meaningless lives who didnt look where they were going. Heck, i was even cut up by a forty-tonne lorry whilst doing my CBT with the instructor calling him a tosser in my ear over the radio.

Is it because they dont like the bikes? possibly, they are loud and make an irritating whiney noise. No, it's the L plate....people cannot stand the possibility that they could be behind someone who might hold them up for that extra 10 seconds that it costs them over their entire journey.

Whilst doing driving lessons i got overtaken, whilst doing the speed limit and then speed off into the distance only for 30 seconds later im sitting next to them at the next turning, and i sit there wanting to wind down the window, knock on theirs and mock them for not getting any further any quicker than me. :nana:

SUV's should be banned, they are environmentally un-friendly, they take up to much space, they are just plain ugly and they give their drives a superiority complex endangering the lives of other motorists and pedestrians.

I dont have a clue what half of those terms mean (lorry and tosser ?), but I got the general idea behind it. My girlfriend does the same crap if she is late, she weaves in and out of traffic and tailgates people...I get on her about constantly, and when I drive she yells at me for driving too slow...but the time she ends up saving is about 30 seconds at the most...esp. in San Diego traffic...I actually beat her most places b/c she will dart around in the lanes, then they stop and I just cruise by slowly and laugh. As far as SUVs being banned...I can't agree with that...I think they serve their purpose and for the most part are OK. They definitely are gas-guzzlers, but technology is getting better all the time...many companies are coming out with hybrids to help the situaton, however, it is the attitudes of the drivers that needs to change. people dont want hybrids, b/c they are new and different and people are ill-informed about their capabilities. Personally, I would drive one, but they would not suit my purposes for a vehicle...I need something that double as daily driver as well as tow-rig for my Jeep and Lincoln. If they come out with a hybrid that can tow 10,000 lbs. I am down at freeway speeds up hills, I will buy one.

SUV's do serve their purposes, especially for families, or minivans, which really aren't much different except in handling and (minor appearance). What is your proposal for families who have 5-6 people and carseats?

Should we all go stand at a bus stop and pay per person? Frankly, buses don't have safe restraints for children anyway, I'll put my children's safety over much of anything else in life. Call me selfish. Perhaps you suggest we just leave one of the kids at home while everyone else goes wherever?

They just make sense. We will find ways to improve them as far as the fuel economy and such. As for appearance, I happen to think anything other than a truck/SUV is ugly. Well, that's my opinion on it, just like yours, it's meaningless.

did you read any of thread before you posted??

like HoneyImHome said, there's no way families with more than 3 children could go anywhere together if SUV's were banned- and the alternatives are just silly.

In a perfect world there would be no need for them however this is not a perfect world (that is why we post on these forums is it not?) and of course situations exist where they have their purpose - that i cannot deny, however there are a number of drivers who have no need for the qualities which SUV's have but buy theme anyway to make some kind of statement about themself - a sort of expression of themselves which unfortunatley affects their personality behind the wheel in a way that is detrimental to the experience of other road users.

oh, I understand that.

what I don't understand is that if you can not deny that there is a purpose for them, then why ban them completely??

and tell me this as well-

in a perfect world, what would exist that would eliminate the need for SUV's? or is that some sort of disclaimer you merely add at the beginning of your posts?

in a perfect world we would have a better form of transport

they should be banned on the basis that they are environmentally unfriendly and asthetically at minimum displeasing.

see, you're mixing facts and opinion.

fact- SUVs are environmentally unfriendly. True, but then so are all fossil fuel burning vehicles. My SUV actually gets decent mileage, almost as well as most luxury cars.

opinion- aesthetically unpleasing. that's false. not because you're opinion is wrong, but because you claim it as a fact. i disagree, i think they can be very pleasing. thereforever, that satatement is incorrect.

which do you think looks nicer, an SUV or a tree?

I would say an SUV wrapped round a tree myself but it would be cruel to harm the tree to spite the SUV.
