Suspension Question

What tool do you use to adjust the rear rebound damping on the base ducati 1098?

Somebody recommended that I set the rear sag at 30mm and the fron at 28mm. Any other opinions?

There are hooked spanners available for turning the rings - I think I bought mine from Motion Pro (it's been about a decade so I don't remember for sure). Some people use a punch and mallet to loosen the lock ring.

Most guys set up more sag in front, not less than the rear. Depending upon riding style, rear can be set to 25 - 35 mm, front 30 - 40 mm. The old rule of thumb was to baseline sag (with rider in full gear) at 1/4 to 1/3 of suspension travel. Then adjust from there.

I'm not asking about adjusting the spring tension with the spanner. In the swing arm there is a hole with a screw that adjusts damping, but the screw isn't a flathead or phillips. Doesn't look like an allen wrench So, there are four adjustments you can make to the back, 1) spring tension, 2) rider height, 3) compression, 4) damping. I'm asking about the damping.

Thanks again!!

Right...it's a 3mm allen. Because you'll only engage it at an angle, a ball driver is needed. I'd think a more elegant design could have been engineered, seems like rebound adjustability was an afterthought. Sorry for confusing your original question.
