Suspect I may have allergies, what should I do next?

I've never had allergies before, and no one in my family has them either.

But I've got this recurring sinus infection with other bizarre symptoms -- sometimes a swollen tonsil, sometimes a horrible phlegmy cough, sometimes my ears get blocked, sometimes I snore so loud I wake myself up. It's been coming and going for about 10 months, and all the doctors I've seen keep saying it's just a virus and it'll go away. And it does, but then it comes back.

I'm loath to take more time of work or spend the money to hear yet again that they can't help me. I'm suspicious that I may be developing allergies, but is there a way to tell the difference? Supposing I am developing allergies...what do you folks suggest I do to identify what I'm reacting to?

Thanks all -- hope you enjoy your Friday. :)

Sinus infections are not necessarily linked to allergies. Most of your symptoms sound to me like you may need your tonsils out! But if I were you, I'd head to a good ENT and see what he has to say. If all clear there, then then next option would be a good allergist and a scratch test to determine if you have allergies and to what allergens.
but the ear problems, snoring, tonsils and sinus issues could all be the result of tonsil problems. I stayed infected from the neck up for ages before finally having mine out. That was 38 years ago and I've had two sinus infections and no ear infections since.

Thanks Titchou, tonsil issues was something I had definitely not considered. Mine are all gnarly and mangled-looking from a truly terrible bout of mono I had ten years ago, but other than that I haven't thought about them much. I'll see what I can find out!
