Surprise make over for an author?

So my best friend is about to publish her second book and we want to surprise her with a full blown make over.

She's a cute thing, about 5'5'' with brown hair and blue/gray eyes (my sister in appearance :) and she's got this whole island girl thing down pat (wavy locks, long dresses, jeans, tanks)... but we're trying to give her a more polished and put together look.

So, what kinds of clothing, make up, etc. would work for an average, slightly stocky lady looking to make a lasting impression? And she won't do heels... much to our dismay. She's also breaking into songwriting and will be putting out an EP, so something professional but show stopping...

Did you get all that?

well short dresses in bold colors are pretty (:
and short skirts , in pretty patterns .
if she doesn't do heels , flats or wedges are still pretty (:
