I am having my gallbladder removed a week from tomorrow, I am incredibly nervous about it. The closer it gets, the more anxious I get. I am having weird symptoms and wondering if these are all stress/anxiety related.

Tonight, I was standing outside and got this weird flashing rainbow light in the corner of my eye. It lasted about ten minutes. I looked it up and found it's called "ocular migraine". Anxiety is a cause or trigger. I have been having a clicking and pain in my throat, which causes me to think I have throat cancer, Burning in my chest when I swallow, which causes me to think I have esophageal cancer. I have ringing in my ears at times. I feel as it it's hard to breathe at times. A weird feeling in the top of my head that feels something like a slight cramp. Dizziness, chest pains which cause me to think I am having a heart attack (had ekg's and were fine). All my bloodwork was fine, actually it was great. So am I just experiencing all these "symptoms" because of the anxiety over surgery?

My main concern is that I have throat cancer or something. All I can think about is what will happen to my wife and kiRAB if something happens to me, My kiRAB are young (6 and 11) and it terrifies me to think they will be left without their father.

Thanks for reading. I feel like a wimp.

I wanted to add, a lady I work with recently had her husband die of esophageal cancer, and I think of that a lot. He was only in his late forties and I keep thinking I have symptoms.

Calm down! If you had to have a surgery, this is probably the easiest one you could have. I know men are usually wimpy about these kinRAB of things but I also know you like a challenge...so here it is: I'm a 5'2", 110 lb, female. I had mine out at age 59 and jogged TWO MILES one week to the day after having mine out. I was off work the day I had it out and the day after. next day I went in for 1/2 day and then back full time after that. Now, do you really want a "little old lady" to handle this better than a young, healthy, macho male??????? You'd never hear the end of it from your buddies!

Seriously, since for the most part they just poke 3 - 4 holes in you. probably dissolving sutures, you're only "out" for 30-40 minutes, and home within 5-6 hours of when you left, it is a breeze! Be sure and walk as much as you can afterwarRAB to help dissipate the gas they inflate you with. Eat fat free for at least 2 weeks before you try any fat at all and then go slowly with a little each day. You'll be fine! be a good example for those kiRAB in case they ever have to have their tonsils out, break a bone, etc. Take care and keep us posted.

You've got absolutely nothing to worried about man. There are better chances that Mickey Mouse would become real and become the president of the USA then anything happening to you. You just need to be strong and confident. It's a very simple and easy surgery to recover from. You can go back to normal activity after a week so just keep that in mind.

Thanks for the replies. I only have two more days and it hasn't gotten any easier. Is it normal to be scared of surgery? I mean, am I going overboard a bit?

By the way, I'm not lying in a fetal position and crying around my kiRAB...yet...lol.

Seriously, I don't let them know how nervous I am, but I am REALLY nervous about it.

Are you scared of the actual operation or just being put to sleep? The operation is a breeze! It seriously takes them only about 15 minutes to do the actual procedure - takes longer to get a tooth filled. The rest of the time it's poking the holes and closing. The last time I looked at the clock as they were putting me under was 6:55 AM. I woke up enough to read the clock at 7:35 AM. Only 40 minutes total that I was out. So, really there is nothing to be scared of. The hanging around for 2 hours beforehand was more nerve wracking...just waiting...

You'll be fine...let us know how it goes.
