Usually they are pretty much know what exactly will be done, but in my case they thought surgery will be only 5-6 hours.
My Dr did not expect to see my SIJ in such bad shape (since tests don't really show that area) so he added to lurabar fusion of L-4, L-5 S-1 a fusion of SIJ. The lami and decomression was done too. So instead of 6 hours it was almost 10 hours.
Second fusion was almost 7 hours: he removed hardware from previous surgery and fused L-3 L-4.
You don't feel anything; you go to sleep and before you realize, they wake you up.

The main thing for you is to be prepared for recovery in your house. I mean that all the tips you can find on this board - read them, use them, they are very helpful. People in here are wonderful, they really give excellent material to read and take in consideration.
