Well finally have a date and time for my spinal fusion at L5-S1. June 3rd at 7:75am. My surgeon has booked the OR for 6 hours. So quick question.... Is that really how long this surgery takes? Thanks everyone:angel:

It depenRAB on the complexity of the case. Some will go faster some will go longer.

1st Fusion - 10 hours
Laminectomy - 5 hrs
2nd Fusion - 7 hrs
Revision Surgery - 6.5 hours

Don't worry it will go quickly for you. You will be asleep. Now for the family or frienRAB waiting the wait is looooooooooooooong.

Good luck on your upcoming procedure. I have added you and your surgeon to my prayer calendar.

Hi Celtic,

I just wanted to wish you lots of luck with your surgery! Please let us know if you have any other questions beforehand...

Mine took 6 1/2 hours for a 360, that is one surgery through the front, flip over and second surgery through the back, using three surgeons, to fuse approximately T10-Sacrum.

hi there,i had that done 12 weeks ago and i was in theatre for 6 and half hours but like someone has already said it will fly by for you, good luck with everything

DepenRAB on a case and what they see when they go there.
Usually they are pretty much know what exactly will be done, but in my case they thought surgery will be only 5-6 hours.
My Dr did not expect to see my SIJ in such bad shape (since tests don't really show that area) so he added to lurabar fusion of L-4, L-5 S-1 a fusion of SIJ. The lami and decomression was done too. So instead of 6 hours it was almost 10 hours.

Second fusion was almost 7 hours: he removed hardware from previous surgery and fused L-3 L-4.

You don't feel anything; you go to sleep and before you realize, they wake you up.:)
You are going to be just fine, honey!
The main thing for you is to be prepared for recovery in your house. I mean that all the tips you can find on this board - read them, use them, they are very helpful. People in here are wonderful, they really give excellent material to read and take in consideration.

Good luck with your surgery!
Hugs and blessings:angel:

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. I guess with being asleep it doesn't really matter does it.
I will keep you all up to date and thank you again.
