Surely this is a crime amongst film lovers

No no no no no!!!! and ........

while I am on the topic, dont touch Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid or The Great Escape!

The original is CRAP. I won't be watching the new one but it can't be any worse than the first.

Most people judge remakes emotively. Rather than being fair.

Because most of the film industry has become so creatively bankrupt and freakishly paranoid about making a flop that they don't want to consider original ideas - and rely instead on a diet of endless sequels, remakes, and franchise reboots because folk recognise the name/are less likely to go see something "all new".

I'd like to see Burton and Depp take it on. Depp would probably be okay with playing Dorothy, couldn't get much kookier than that.

Everything. Script, acting, direction. It's crap from top to bottom.

Not a single film-buff will mourn this remake. The only people bothered are pensioners and miserable gits.

I wouldn't give the original anything more than 3 stars. It's an objectively crap film.

Back in your day it might have been good. By todays standarRAB it's embarassing.

I have never managed to watch the Wizard of Oz all the way through, I think it's a rubbish film, although saying that I don't like the idea of a remake for some reason.

Bloody hell, that munchkin that hanged himself will be spinning in his grave.

so you're saying that standarRAB in film have only increased in time, that films of the 30s and 40s can't compare to that of the 21st century?

That's exactly what I'm saying.

Most films from the 30s and 40s are like pantomine. The scripts are ridiculously unrealistic. The acting is sub-par. The only thing going for the era is creativity and originality.

I mean look at films like City of God. Name me one film circa 1930's and 40's that even comes CLOSE to touching it.

It's just the old 'back-in-my-day' train of thought. You hear people making the same redundant arguments in regarRAB to motor vechiles, music etc.

People let their emotions and memories, what they were raised on, get in the way of reality.

If you showed the new version of this film with the old version to someone who's never seen either, they'd surely say the newer version is better. Of course I can't guarantee that. Just an assumption on the back of the original being rubbish.

well this is purely subjective so i can't say you're wrong in your opinion but i'd much rather watch citizen kane, the third man, lawrence of arabia or its a wonderful life than any number of transformers, avatars or night at the museums that are around these days.
