...what would we say? Suppose scientists discovered an extraterrestrial civilization on a distant planet. We monitor their communications and discover that they are peaceful, intelligent, and likely to be friendly.
But due to the distance involved, if we send a message it will take 300 years to arrive. And with our technology, we can send only one sentence with 20 words or less. And we will not be able to send another message for 300 years. And it would be at least 600 years before we could receive any reply from them.
What message would we send?
BTW, John 3:16 would not be allowed. It could be interpreted as warlike if they interpret it as meaning our God has made us immortal and we could never be killed in battle, which would make us invincible.
Steve, the speed of light sets a severe limit on how fast messages can travel. With the typical interstellar distances - the closest star is 4 light years away - it could easily be hundreds of light years to the nearest civilization.
Well, why am I not surprised at the juvenile responses. The problem is, this really is the maturity level of 90% of the Earth's population. Quite sad, really.
