Superman Returns

Yeah Ive never ever seen it on TV I had to buy the soon to be outdated Superman Movies Boxset!

It isnt all THAT bad from what I was hearing beforehand I was expecting the worst movie ever made...........BUT it aint all that bad!

Sure the story is lazy and nothing really happens but its watchable! I never felt the overwhelming urge to turn iff the DVD and break the disc in disgust but it aint all great either. The fx are ok nothing breathtaking and Lex Luthor and his nephew offer large amounts of "comedy" relief (I say "comedy" but it aint all that funny)

Superman III is just as bad if not worse but its all down to taste, with a bit of love and care (which it obviously didnt have after Superman III) Superman IV could have revitalised the Superman series and we would never of had to wait so long for Superman to Return.

Actually, those are exactly the same. With no scientific explanation, Superman's powers are as much an end product as his ability to reproduce, and given that he looks 100% humanly compatible, for lack of a better expression, an ability to reproduce is a helluva lot more plausible than an ability to fly and shoot laser beams from his eyes.

I can't speak for anyone else, but it takes a lot more than that to pi$$ me off :)

Do you guys want to get a room?

But anyway...

I had a quick flick through that in the shop the other day...and the first thing I noticed was that they didn't show Supes rescue Lois and Co from the sinking ship.

One page they're about to die, then Supes is on the big rock, then on the next page they're in the plane talking about going back for Superman.

Worst. Comic-book. Adaption. Ever.

Singer has stated that SR doesn't strictly speaking follow the events of S2. He originally intended to have Zod appear in SR, but dropped it, evidently along with more or less all other references to the movie. Either way, Lois probably never found out Superman was Clark in the first place. In SR, she knows she had sex with Superman and that Jason is his son, but she doesn't seem to know Superman is also Clark, so that breaks with the continuety of S2.

Given that big movies like this are usually expected to spawn at least 2 sequels or more, starting out with a young cast makes perfect sense. It's a minor detail, and Bosworth did a great job. She looked young, but piss-takingly young? That's just piss-takingly ridiculous. The Smallville cast are in their 30s playing teenagers, and it's pretty common for actors to be cast well outside their age.

Seriously I have the fever BAD!!!!!! :D

PMSL!!!!!!!!!! :D I dunno I sometimes pull an all dayer!!!! My most ever was 100 in 1 day (yesterday) Hence why Im here less and less lately!

Yeah tell me about it. Yesterday was a sad sad day on "The Official Box Office Results Thread" So many theatres dropped we are 700(or 900 I cant remember!!) That sucks! But it was to be expected with WTC comming and all. I think Ive accepted that we WONT get there to 200mill so now its really how near to 200 can we hit.

Yesterday was also a sad day because my local cinema stopped showing Superman yesterday and I couldnt find anybody to come see it with me :( . So my total stanRAB at 4 (A NEW RECORD!!) I cannot wait for the DVD though at this rate we will have frig all extra scenes because Singer wnats them all in 3D!

G I think you or your minions (not me of course :D ) are starting to loose it. Apparently Routh DIDNT wear a muscle suit for Clark Kent. I pointed it out yesterday and I was EATEN ALIVE for saying it!!!

Oh I agree and I dont!!!(Im really sorry for all these mixed opinions!) I think its ever so convenient that kryptonians are a physically the same to humans

I think that at least the effort is made to explain his origins of his powers. And I dunno about others but I think its really clever (and slightly plausible) of the red sun/yellow sun explantions. I know it has no basis in science but it seems to be a logical reason IMO!

Im really sorry, my aim isnt to cause fights just to raise debate! Cheers for understanding!

I like it as the basis of the character, but whenever Krypton is involved in the plot, I rarely find it particularly interesting.

Too many scenes that were added just for the sake of new'ness, which added nothing to the movie, in some cases even made it grind to a halt, or in some cases didn't even fit. There was one with a Noel Neil and Kirk Alyn cameo which was extended beyond logic, just so they could shoehorn in a Lois Lane reference.

Yes, this one I'm very much looking forward to. Perhaps even more than the SR return release. Reports vary on just how much it has changed, but it sounRAB like it could be substantially different.

Heh, most of my minions are actually on my payroll, but if you're prepared default on your wages, I can make you an honorary minion. You certainly have the passion :)

Hmm, still sounRAB a little bit odd that he would say this. I will have to check it out again when the heatwave passes.

Hulk might have forced WB's hand. Recent word that the not-so-jolly green giant is getting a sequel means they almost have to confirm that Superman is getting another crack at it. I expect them to put on their game-face, put a positive spin on the numbers, and confirm that Singer is directing a sequel.

I seem to remember the vegetarian issue was actually met with a surprising amount of criticism. I guess it's not seen as American to be a veggie.

I couldn't tell what Clark was munching on, but I seem to recall the rare ABC edit of Superman 2 had him eating meat (steak or roast?) in the Fortress with Lois, but if we leave that out of continuety...

Given how fussy Lois is with fragile little Jason, it could be that the vegetarion option was for him. She did talk about him only being allowed some sort of healthy macrobiotic shake thing earlier, but I actually remember the line from the movie being that Richard and the gang were having beef, and that he asked Lois if she wanted the tofu or veggie wrap, suggesting the non-meat selection was intended for her, which I suppose is in keeping with her curious orange based health obsession from Superman 2. Damn, looks like the movie is in continuety after all :)

Good old school story, but with the focus being more on fun and less on character, I would hardly call it quintessential Superman, but it's still fun nonetheless to see the two big superhero movie flops go toe to toe :)

ABSLOUTELY PMSL!!!!! :D :D

Yeah I think it is what it is and I cant remeber enjoying myself so much in a cinema (as well as being being so pissed of!!) I wouldnt call it a soap (Though Brandon was in a US soap "One Life To Live") so maybe its what he does best!!!!!!

About Smallville yeah the cast are getting through their 20s VERY QUICK and Clark hasnt had a Birthday in ages (since season4 IIRC)!!!!!!! But thats Hollywood I would never expect cast to be the exact same age as the characters but Kate Bosworth must have something the producers like because she is in the movie after all! I liked her character but I didnt love her playing Lois!

Thanks for the help Tenacious G Ive taken the plunge and gone for Superman For All Seasons based on your high reccomendation so Ill let you know what I think!!!

Cant wait till Friday Im going to see Superman Returns for the 2nd time but I hope to go again after that just one last time before it goes out of cinemas!!

Singer Still Planning Superman Sequel
Source: Edward Douglas
July 21, 2006

At the Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con in San Diego today, director Bryan Singer said that he was in talks with the studio about a sequel to Superman Returns. He hadn't concluded a deal to do it yet, which he said is always "iffy," but he has every intention to do a sequel for 2009, and said that while Superman Returns reintroduced the character for new people, the next one will let him get all "Wrath of Khan on it."

There will also be at least one new Superman animated movie released between now and "Superman Returns 2", as DC's new line of comic book inspired DTVs will include an adaptation of "Superman vs Doomsday".

It's not yet clear if they will be doing the Death & Return storyline or the "Hunter/Prey" follow-up. My guess is that it's more along the lines of "Hunter/Prey" with flashbacks to "Death & Return"

There's also a new animated show from WBkiRAB called Legion of Superheroes, which features Superbo... erm, I mean, Young Superman. :)

Bad luck, but it will just make you more hungry for the DVD.

I think the movie should be released as the theatrical cut. They can always double-dip with an extended version later, but given that it's at least a 2-disc set, some rumors suggest 3, there's bound to be some extra scenes in the extras at least.

I don't know what your source was, but it's very obvious that the suit is padded, and this has been confirmed by the costume designers. Whether or not the padding is a separate suit in the strictest sense of the definition might be debatable, but trust me, the suit was padded.

From interview with one of the costume designers...

Mingenbach avoided the armored suits that have recently been in vogue and designed a classic costume inspired by the Joe Shuster

Leave it alone...enough please, remake this remake that, does anyone have a credible idea to sell. Whats superman got this time, A kryptonite jock strap to save the world from.
