God if all this continuity gets out of hand we will have Suerman; Crisis on Infinate Movies before long!!!!!!(Id still watch it though!!)
But I do think thet should at least recignise when/how the relayionship was consumated filling many reasons mainly continuity and filling the seemingly contractual obligation leading males have to take of their clothes!!!!!
BTW Tenacious G are you some sort of SuperGod?? You speak so much sense and know EVERYTHING about the Superman franchise which is a hell of a LOT!!!!!
You have to be some sort of Zod character because I feel an overwhelming obligation to kneel before you!!!!
SuperHeroHype like to put down EVERYTHING that Superman does and though Im not looking to be around a bunch of yes men Im not looking to be ridiculed because of my opinions. There are plenty of people on BT that will disagree with you but its not in a mocking way.
Well I dunno I do like BT.net and do spend a lot of tme there. In the space of a week I have 320posts!!! Its like a drug much more addictive than RAB of late!
Looking forward to an official release of info from WB and at this stage Im thinking the DVD and Game specs are gonna be revealed together as I have it that the Game details are to be announced very soon, we are thinking maybe Thursday so heres hoping!
Ill defer to you on this one as I can't really say I've watched 4 too often. Can't think why !!!
One of my favourites scenes also alongside "Now finally, kneel before Zod."
Yeah the S3 comment is probably a bit of anger and disappointment at what might have been, although I do like that fight scene, wild fluctuations in the strength ratios of the two protagonists not withstanding !! I've watched Superman Returns again and there are bits to like but strangely enough they are not the main focus of the film.
1) After the all the "stalking" and "your boy friend can't fly like this" pieces at the beginning there was a fine emotional pay off in the boat rescue where Superman lets Richard hold Lois and Mini-me whilst he lifts them away from the boat. It says ( in sub text Bryan ---Yay!) that Superman accepts the status quo and that Richard is the father also to Damien. I liked that.
2) When ( after the diabolical near rape scene - hello 12a !) Superman falls into the water with a shiv of krptonite in him we hear Jor-El droning on about how he can lead others . This comes to fruition with the Kitty crystals scene. Not quite as subtle as the boat scene but I liked it anyway. I'm not quite sure why Parker Posey gets such a roasting in this film, I thought she was okay. She might have indeed made a better Lois.
The thing is though that the more I look at the pieces of this fiilm that I like the more I think that Singer has made a melodrama/thriller instead of a Superhero movie. Its just got completely the wrong tone, its not a bad film but its not Superman.
Don't think some of the Lois/Clark relationship stuff will add much to whats already there but for instance, if they put in that fight clip I linked to above, and use it to replace frankly ridiculous pieces like "home run" it will make the film better. I'd like to se e what I assume is Richard Lesters hysterically amusing sequence where the citizens of Metropolis confront Zod & Co binned as well.
Am I the only one hoping Donner in hinRABight realised what a pain Kidder was, and that Lois actually goes SPLAT!!!?
[/QUOTE]
Aw, she is a bit haggish but she feels more like a reporter for all that. There was also a great little sub text they were able to do with her character in S2 where , once Superman loses his powers Lois frankly starts to lose interest.
Heh, good call I think the problem for Team Singer was that they loved the original movies as much as the rest of us did, certainly the first one, but doing a full-on sequel would have meant they would be stuck with such stupidities as the super-kiss and the turning back of time, so it made more sense to just use the previous movies as a rough framework, rather than a point for point blueprint.
Yes. I'm not sure it's that big a deal in the final analysis, but they clearly underestimated the level of confusion their cherry-picking of continuity would cause. As for when it happened, I suppose we can all do the math ourselves, but it seems a little funky that, unless Kryptonian sperm is time-release, Lois would have had to have gotten pregnant with Supes before he left, and then not wasted any time in getting the relationship with Richard to the stage where he could believe he was the father. Slut.
I'm sure that's too generous a compliment... but I'll take it I have been a Superman fan since I was around 4 years old, so it's a subject I'm pretty familiar with.
Excellen... hey, waitaminnit. Is this just a trick, so you can pick me up by the neck and toss me across the room?
The supposed $260 million is a speculative figure. Nobody knows for sure what it cost. It's most likely closer to $200 million, I think Singer even stated this at one point. What makes it expensive is the fact that WB paid directors, writers and actors like McG, J.J Abrams, Tim Burton, Nicholas Cage, and many, many others for the many false starts this project has had over the last 10 years+, so they probably never expected it to break even at the box office, but the fact that it's bombing a little bit would have certainly been a surprise.
It was certainly a different interpretation than Donner's original Superman. As a re-introduction of the character, it didn't work. This movie would have been better as a second or third movie. It's too far distanced from the originals.
'Superman' had trouble saving the plane. Yet he had no trouble throwing an island filled with Kryptonite into space!
Come on Supes! You made your bread and butter saving planes!
It wasn't really strength that was the issue with the plane. In fact, it was his strength that became a problem when he ripped off the wing, and I think it's fair to say lifting the island took a little bit more out of him than dealing with the plane. The kryptonite only affected him once he had reached space, as it grew out of the bottom of the island. I think that worked just fine.
At the end of Superman II he says something like "Sorry I was late Mr President. I won't let you down again." Yet he takes off for 5 years! Wha....?
What was that stuff about NEVER lying? (You'll be kicked out of the Justice League for that! )
'He didn't really let the President down. The entire country was essentially invaded by Zod & Co, but as far as we know, nothing like that happened while he was gone. Also, the movie isn't meant to be a direct continuation of Superman 2.
Why are the colours of his costume the same as the 'bad' Superman in Superman III?
Heh, good point. I think the intention was to go for a modern retro design consistent with the muted, art deco designs of much of the movie
Why is 'Superman' stalking Lois? Was I the only one to find this uncomfortable?
Ex-boyfriend's priviliges. I do it all the time
I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Brandon is too skinny!!!
I thought he was just right. There's no good reason why Superman should have huge muscles, other than the fact that retarded comic book artists think it looks good
Gene Hackman rocks! I have a ton of respect for Spacey but his character was... insipid.
Couldn't agree more, and Eve Techmacher could take down Kitty Kowalski any day, and don't even get me started on the henchmen, or the fact that Luthor's plot was a special kind of stupid, and where the hell was his supposed alien technology, he was planning to defend his new country with. Team Luthor and their idiotic plan was the weakest part of the movie to me
Superman falling after he throws the island into space. Was I the only one thinking of the Hulk bit where he too was falling?
It didn't occur to me at first, but it does now. Thanks for that
Oh yeah.... you can take cgi too far ya know!
Yes, some of the CGI was dreadful. Not Spider-Man dreadful, but still. Many of the action sequences, particularly the final Metropolis rescues bored the crap out of me. Lazy, poorly staged CGI
I won't comment on the hospital scene because it was like the Twilight Zone and I still can't believe it.
Yes, this is where it lost it really badly
I'm not quite in the Byrne camp. I still liked the movie, but it should have been much better.
Okay, well if we are not worrying about spoilers here is a question.
Whose kid is he - Superman's or Clark's?
Now in Superman II Lois slept with Clark. If this is the result, then we can only assume that with the revelation about his powers that she twigged that Clark is Superman. On the other hand, in Superman II he wiped her memory, so she wouldn't know she'd slept with Clark.
As far as we know she never slept with Superman, so there is no reason to assume that the child's powers mean that he is Superman's son.
I think you need to have a rudimentary lesson in life, my friend.
What I am posting is my opinion, it doesn't mean I am right, neither does it mean you are right either, it's just an opinion.
As you get older you will learn to respect other's opinions without getting personal. I certainly have no problem with you as some other poster said, I accept your opinion.
Me, I enjoyed part of the movie - maybe 20%, the other 80% (for me) was dreadful.
By the way I hate summer blockbusters and made an exception for this film, and certainly am not complaining about the "lack of explosions".
I believe that they made a major mistake by borrowing parts of the other movies and just ignoring other elements. I think it just confused the simple-minded clown's amongst us, who only have a modicum of the cranium power needed to enjoy this film.
SR doesn't confirm Jason was conceived in Superman 2. In fact, it's very unlikely. Remember, if Lois got pregnant in S2, she would have remembered Clark was Superman. She clearly doesn't know this in SR. I know, I know, the memory-erasing super-kiss, but if that had taken place, by realising Jason was Superman's child, Lois should also have remembered Clark was Superman, which there is no suggestion of in the movie whatsoever. Like I said earlier, it actually seems that Lois has known Supes was the father all along, considering the tone and delivery of her answer when Luthor asks who Jason's father is.
Basically, Singer has cherry-picked his continuity. Lois and Supes obviously had sex at some point, but it would have been Lois and Supes, not Lois and Clark. At this point, I think we can more or less discount the continuity of S2 and assume SR picks up from some time after S1, where Lois and Supes would have had a relationship of some kind.
Another thing that kind of bugged me, and Lois too, was "why did you leave us?" OK, we know he left to find Krypton, but is that a good enough answer? How super is a Superman who just ups and leaves his girlfriend without saying goodbye? Sure, it was "too difficult". SounRAB like a lame conceit just to create tension between the characters and set up the premise of the movie... Or maybe Superman is just a giant drama queen?
I explained earlier why this theory doesn't work, and Singer himself has said SR only used the previous movies as a very loose framework for SR's universe, and even then, after dropping Zod from SR, he more or less ignored the events of S2.
Just got back from seeing the 3D version at the IMAX in Manchester.
I thought it was a great film - superb action sequences, good effects, good plot, and pretty good acting. I thought Brandon Routh made a very good Superman/Clark Kent, and did really seem like Christopher Reeve at certain points for continuity. Although he did look a bit over made-up at times - that could have been the IMAX screen for you, though.
The 3D was a bit disappointing to be honest. There were 3 or 4 segments of 3D, and the technology was very impressive. But, some of those segments were too hectic, close and crowded to really get the benefit, while other scenes would have really demonstrated the 3D better. All in all, it was a bit of a distraction, and not really worth the extra couple of quid and trip over to Manchester...
As for what was bad about the film...
The whole idea of the kid was just rubbish! Really wasn't impressed. When he was sat there by the piano and Lois was being beaten up, I was just there saying to myself "Please don't let him come over all Super-boy. Please don't it be that cheesy". And then - bang, big slice of stilton landed right in my lap.
One question though - is the kid immune to kryptonite, and just hasn't previously demonstrated any super-powers?
OR - does kryptonite actually work in reverse on the kid and causes his super-powers to manifest themselves?
Afterall - he didn't do anything super until he had the kryptonite rubbed in his chops. It didn't make him feel ill, and within minutes he was able to chuck a grand piano across the room. That then effect seemed to subside when they were locked away and he couldn't open a door.
None taken, I realise that, that's my point, the feeling many of us had 20 years ago can't be reproduced, maybe that's why the film has had a lukewarm response. Maybe this is the reason I thought it was crap, it can't compare.
I really appreciate how humble and down to earth you are! Here I am freaking out and you take it in your stride! I spose POTC2 was always going to be a hit BUT from all of my frienRAB and family of those who have seen the two (which is quite a few TBH) Superman has had a lot more praise. POTC has a lot of boring bits and seems that they spend a whole lotta time going back and forth to nowhere justifying a 3rd movie. I havent seen POTC2 but from the first one I personally thought it was a yawn fest and it seems to be a hit with lot of women because of the Bloom/Depp combo.
Yeah I think SR has had quite a lot of positive press over here and for the home of the worlRAB most renouned tabloiRAB eg THE SUN thats a bit bizzare! That Jesus thing is a bit stupid IMO
Yeah where should the info be posted on the Singer speech on the net? On the comicon website or where else? Superman sites etc?
Both sides will always be looking to get the best deal. WB will low-ball Singer, and he will ask for too much. Then they chat about it for a bit, come to an agreement of sorts, and we get another Superman movie. That's how these things work.
In terms of cheese, Superman has always been seen as second only to Captain Marvel, who isn't nearly as well known.
S4's biggest problem were that it was cheap and dumb. The fact that it tried to be about something meaningful and failed so spectacularly just makes it even more cringeworthy. I also seem to remember the kid in it was extremely annoying, and the effects looked to be about a decade older than those in the original Superman, which made it look dated by around 20 years.
Close enough.
I think in thi case, less is more. Another 45 minutes could only have made this movie worse. I think it will be available as extra features for the re-release in November, but won't be included in the movie.
