Superman Returns

Perhaps, but I would have thought Singer might just leave that one hanging. He might just cave to fanboy pressure for clarification, but to be honest, it's not really important when she got pregnant, and establishing it happened before S2 will just cause as much confusion as believing it happened in S2 does now. All we need to know is that she got pregnant by Superman, and that she doesn't know Clark is Superman.

Oh I agree but for Lois taking Superman out of the equation of her life made things so much more simpler. She was top of the field in journalism and had a family(albeit with his kid) and she was fooling herself to think this was making her happy but as years went on and Superman was a faded memory she believed her own lie. With that streak of red and blue hope in that split second her ife becomes complicated again. Here we now have a woman in love with a man other than her fiance

I think that most of her spunkyness has been lost since
the love of her life just upped and left her without saying goodbye also having a baby has tempered some of that spunkyness, she's more sensible and pragmatic now that she has to be responsible for a life other than her own.

Now I'm not saying that its a good thing that they have done this to her character, but this seems to be the direction the writers have taken.

I was about to ask how you have already watched it 3 times but then I realised how. Although I would prefer to watch it in the cinema the first time I see Superman Returns!

I dont think its confirmed, its most likely a date that play.com can put up so that they can start taking money for pre orders, but Im sure itll be close to around that date.

I only use the RAB forums. I just don't have time for anything else, but I would have thought the superhero hype forums would offer a more realistic representation of how fans feel about the movie, and given Spidey's much higher popularity, it's no surprise it can seem a little one-sided compared to the virtual fan club mentality you would expect to find at a place like bluetights.

It's not unheard of for movies and TV to make their projects sound more expensive than they are. SR was often described as "the most expensive movie ever", which sounRAB like an impressive selling point.

That's just Play guessing. The movie has not been officially announced, but should happen any day now, but the rumors surrounding the SR set and the exact specs of the various 11, 14 or 18 disc Ultimate Superman sets have been swirling for weeks, and nobody seem have a definitive answer yet.

There are no right answers here, so your opinion is as valid as mine, I just think Superman should be made of sterner stuff. Over the last decade or so, Superman has constantly been dogged for being "wimpy", and this didn't help.

Yes, it's pretty brutal, but that giant forhead of hers can obviosuly take a real pounding :)

That scene was cut. Not sure if it was for time, or because it seemed inappropriate for Martha to have a boyfriend, but we do see him driving away from the Kent farm, just before Clark's spaceship returns. Quite a lot was cut from the Smallville scenes, apparently.

No, that would be truly depressing. I thought the Spider-Man movies were uninspired, the first one being outright crap, but I can definitely see why they're bigger crowd pleasers than Superman, but I would probably shoot myself if Bruce "worst living actor" Campbell would appear in a Superman movie. I remember quite a few years ago, before the Superman cast was nailed down, quite a lot of people suggested Campbell for the role of Superman.

Superman Returns is set after Superman 2 in which Superman slept with Lois. If I remember correctly Lois had her memory erased by a kiss from Superman of the fact about Superman secret identity which she learnt in Superman 2. Bryan Singer never ignored the facts that happened in Superman 2!

Yeah it will be great as we might be able to see him get p1ssed of royal that would be a fun moment...........maybe he can shout "KKKHHHAAAAANNNNNN" too so the mood is complete! :D

Thats interesting. If Singer has a goal based purely on money than Ive a feeling that he may fail. I think all concerned (bar lead actors) may have to take a cut because WB arent gonna spend what they did for Superman Returns! I think that there should be substantial enticements but money wont be one of them!

I think it sums up the tone of that scene really well altough I do think that it confuses the average joe who was expecting Superman to get with Lois. But Im really sorry I dont see how its so cheesey. Lifes goal is to reproduce and now that Superman has acjhieved something (I) thought impossible its only right that he will want to protect HIS child and HIS CHILRAB family! Oh I was never really THAT aware that he was a cheesey like (nearly) all other Superheroes he wants to do good and help the helpless..Sometimes to the extreme but no more than others IMO!!! :D

I know!!!! I finished watching it. It was ok and I had the feeling it was trying to recapture the magic of S:TM but the plot-holes were so big you could drive Doomsday (hes big right?) through them! :D People breathing in space just really took the biscuit but Superman III was far too light hearted all in all I think I prefer IV because even with its flaws it seemed to me more a Superman movie than III did!

Isnt it ironic one of the last lines in the whole movie is

Superman (to Lex bringing him to the Marshall): See you in 20.

Nope more likely 18! :D

PMSL!!! :D :D :D
Im sorry if I sound like a complete and utter weirdo but Im just dissapinted something that seemed a cert is now taking on a lot of water and sinking fast! Obviously Im a lot more passionate about Superman than I had previously thought!

I read that this morning and that it was another blow but seem as how it aint a HUGE gap and the US was a much smaller opening thats pretty good news!

Ive convinced a few more mates to come with me to see it tommorow at 2pm so Im delighted(Its the earliest showing possible I cant wait much longer!)

I would so love to be a fly on the wall of WBs boardroom Id like to think that we may get behind the spin soon enough allowing us to gauge how they really feel!

BTW Singer will be at ComicCon Friday at 11.00am-12.30pm US time. I have no idea what time it is here but at least Ill know to look for it Saturday!

Superman Returns isn't really in continuety with the original movies, certainly less with S2 than it is with the original S1, so the audience just has to accept that they had a relationship at some point before Superman left Earth without it having been a direct result of what happened in S2.

Using the exact same characters, but not sticking to the continuety of the original movies has clearly been a great source of confusion for a lot of people.

I watched it this morning and I thoroughly enjoyed it though I must admit that the soap opera-ish ending could have been improved. I liked Brandon Routh as Superman and there were many occasions when I thought that he "was" Christopher Reeve. The film deserves a sequel.

Seen the movie.
Oh.

Did I not like that. That wasn't Superman. Remove the 'S' call him something else like Mr Invincible and the movie is pretty good. But they called it Superman.

Ok. I was reading some thing's about the movie that are now VERY apparent to me.

'Superman' had trouble saving the plane. Yet he had no trouble throwing an island filled with Kryptonite into space!
Come on Supes! You made your bread and butter saving planes!

At the end of Superman II he says something like "Sorry I was late Mr President. I won't let you down again." Yet he takes off for 5 years! Wha....?
What was that stuff about NEVER lying? (You'll be kicked out of the Justice League for that! )

Why are the colours of his costume the same as the 'bad' Superman in Superman III?

Why is 'Superman' stalking Lois? Was I the only one to find this uncomfortable?

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Brandon is too skinny!!!

Thank Ra for John Williams (If you blinked you would have missed his name fly by!)

Gene Hackman rocks! I have a ton of respect for Spacey but his character was... insipid.

Superman falling after he throws the island into space. Was I the only one thinking of the Hulk bit where he too was falling?

Oh yeah.... you can take cgi too far ya know!

I won't comment on the hospital scene because it was like the Twilight Zone and I still can't believe it.

As someone correctly said. This movie works as a "What if....?"
eg. "What if... Superman had a son?"

It also works as a date movie.

Superman with *added* feelings.

Umm... so. I think I'm firmly in the Byrne camp!
:)
(If they ever made Alan Moore's Miracleman into a movie AND did it properly, it would be wow. But of course that will never happen!!!

Me and the wife said the same thing. It's definately one of those "feel good" movies that you leave smiling at the end of it; I don't have that reaction with many films - being the old cynic that I am :)

WUHU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SEQUEL, SEQUEL, SEQUEL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Warner Bros. Pictures President Alan Horn talked to the Los Angeles Times about the performance of Superman Returns and echoed director Bryan Singer's comments from Comic-Con that they are hoping for a sequel in 2009:

Horn expects "Superman Returns" to eventually gross about $400 million worldwide, more than last year's hit "Batman Begins." Nonetheless, "Superman" fell at least $100 million short of his expectations.

"I thought it was a very successful movie, but I think it should have done $500 million worldwide," Horn said. "We should have had perhaps a little more action to satisfy the young male crowd."

Still, he's betting Warner has firmly reestablished the "Superman" franchise and is planning another installment for summer 2009.

DING, DING,DING, DING, DING!!!!

YYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!

HERE WE GO!

The countdown has begun!

No disrespect but I think you are looking for a time machine!

Of course its going to be near impossible for you to recapture how you felt more than 20 years ago. Back then the sfx was the best ever seen, the charater hadnt made it to the big screen, there wasnt a movie like it and it brought in a special set of movies.

Nowadays especially in recent times the market has exploded with this sort of movie ESPECIALLY comic book adaptations. With so many of them we expect each one to be bigger and better than the other but its hard to keep a genre fresh when you cant seem to anything original.

For me personally after a lifetime of repeats on TV of the various Superman films (but not IV! Which I have yet to see!) it was such a thrill to live in a moment where Superman had Returned! The theme tune gave me goose pimples as did most of the film!

As for the blockbusters I think that there is a type of person aimed at each blocbuster
Titanic-Women and Date Movie
Star Wars-Sci Fi fans(Lots of Males but females too!)
LOTR-As Star Wars
ET-Family movie
The other two Ive never seen so I cant comment!

As for marketing Ive no idea which is deemed the best so anything Id say would be a lie!!!!!!!
Ill let Tenacious G take that one for you!!!!!!

It might make perfect business sense to cast Bosworth so that she'll be around for a few sequels, but she's a pretty dead weight as an actress and distractingly young. Anyway, if Singer's going to go so far as use footage of a dead actor to link his film to the original, he should have gone a little further to avoid confusing people and make things a little tighter and more logical.

Heh, nothing wrong with being passionate about Superman. That always gets a plus in my book.

Coming second behind Pirates is no shame. That movie is a box office monster, and it's a pretty small gap. It will be interesting to see how the numbers hold up in the next few weeks. Albeit on a smaller scale, the marketing for the movie was certainly a lot more focused over here, and as far as I'm aware, it hasn't been hounded by all the gay and jesus nonsense... yet.

There's an 8 hour difference, so that's 19:00 over here. Reports should make it to the net pretty quickly. I'm really looking forward to hearing what he has to say.

I heard the producers of IV - Golan Globus? Cannon? spent most of the $40 they were given by WB on other projects, spending on $17 million on the Superman movie. They hacked the hell out of Superman IV. There is something like 45 minutes of footage out there.
