A bizzare story from SSH:

Fear of Flying Cost McG Superman Returns?

"Charlie's Angels movie-maker McG passed on the chance to bring Superman back to the big screen because he's terrified of flying. The claustrophobic director was the first choice to make the fifth Superman Returns movie but he refused to fly to Sydney, Australia, to begin work, and The Usual Suspects director Bryan Singer has taken charge of the project, instead. He explains, "I didn't want to fly down there... I don't really freak out that we're gonna crash but I freak out (when) everything's great and you're at 40,000 feet and then you realize you're in a steel tube and you can't get out of there and there's nothing but water everywhere when you look down." Fearing that his flying fears could impact the rest of his career, McG, real name Joseph Nichol, is trying to conquer his fears with private lessons in keeping his cool while in the air. He adRAB, "I'm getting better. I mean I try to figure it out and charter a plane and get used to it and do some more flying... It helped me just figure out what was going on and just get more comfortable.""

Not that i mind, i think Bryan Singer's a much better choice. :)

Interesting.

Although I'm not judging this movie, obviously not having seen it yet, I have serious doubts, mainly about the lead. I've never seen Brandon Routh in anything, so I don't know how good an actor he is, but he looks far too young to me to be playing Superman. The clue is in the name, surely? Superman, and not Superboy?

The plot of this movie apparently deals with Superman's comeback after a few years away. But Routh is, what, 26? And he looks it. So by this logic, Superman became famous and performed wondrous deeRAB etc when he was 20 or thereabouts?

I really don't like the sound of it. The actor is just too young.

Brandon Routh to me looks all wrong not because of his age but in all the promo material they have released he looks so weedy. Christopher Reeve was built to play the Man of Steel and even worked out after landing the role to look even more defined in the lycra suit.

As far as I'm concerned Warner Brothers would have been better holding off on the film for a year or two and then letting Tom Welling play the role of Clark/Superman in a new film series after he'd finished on Smallville. Welling for one is older then Routh and certainly looks more like the Clark/Superman image we've come to know over the years.

Iv just got a bad feeling about the new superman movie. We had all the movies in the 80's and The new adventures of superman in the 90's and smallville in the last couple of years. So we hav had superman for the last 25 years. The thing thats wrong with it is they cant redesign superman and dress him in leather gear and make him cool like in the x-men his still going to be a bloke flying around in his tights with his underpants on the outside. The problem is with DC comics heroes you really change much about them and their characters aren't very flexable. We can all tell whats going to happen ref: movies and tv shows.

That would have been an excellent idea. Either that, or cast a more "manly" and certainly older actor. My top choice would have been Jim Caviezel.

I also have issues with the re-design of the suit - It looks terrible! The cape looks like its made out of plastic, and is a kind of dirty maroon, rather than bright red. And the chest emblem looks tiny and crap - it should be a big, bold symbol. Instead it looks like a badge he's got from a cereal box. Check the picture below and tell me that doesn't look rubbish:

I have to say that I think the suit looks fine - apart from the chest symbol.

I can understand why they decided to mute the colours - it may have looked too over the top using the usual bright hues.

I actually quite like the belt design.

But the chest symbol needed to be much larger. As a fan of the comics and the previous screen incarnations, the large sysmbol just looks so much better.

The small symbol just looks lost, and instead of imposing itself on the suit as a bold statement, you are left with a lot of blue between the belt and the lowest point of the badge, which in turn makes the actor look taller and thinner than I think he might otherwise look.

Stu.

Yes I quite like the belt too, but you're right, the symbol is all wrong, compared to how bold it is in the comics.
Another thing - His hair is too styled, and the curl obviously artificial, if you know what I mean.

I have just read on Superherohype that the first teaser trailer for Superman Returns will be shown before Harry Porter And The Goblet Of Fire when it is released on the 18th of November. I assume that this has only been confirmed for the US cinemas but I hope this teaser trailer will be shown in UK cinemas as well. Appartently it is only about one minute and thirty-three seconRAB long!
