Superman returns sequel confirmed..

$270m is described as the production budget - would that include promotion, duplication and distribution costs? And the studio doesn't get the full box office take. The cinema and distributors will be taking a cut.

I totally agree. The fact that it wasn't "action packed" didn't bother me, i'd much rather a film tell a good story than have tonnes of action scenes just for the sake of it. But when SR did do action scenes i felt that it did it very well imo (the plane bit was awesome!).

It worries me that they've only confirmed that Singer will be back, what about Brandon Routh? Surely they wont change the actor again.

Agreed. I for one thought it was a way better movie than, say, Spiderman 3, even though it didn't have as many super-heroey moments. The ones we did get were absolutely spine tingling, just like the old days. :)

Not so sure about your comments about not getting the wow factor with older movies though. I grew up with original Reeves movies, and believe me, we got the wow factor and then some! He'll always be the definitive Supes, no matter how good Routh is.

But yeah, overall I'm really thrilled by this news. I was terrified it wouldn't happen after Returns struggled to reach the $200m dollar mark. Obviously the studio saw the potential, and I'm glad it's going to happen.

I know what you mean, but I don't think that will happen. I think any subsequent films will move further away from events in 1 and 2. Singer only intended for SR to be a sort of semi-sequel to the Reeve movies, so it would never adhere solidly to facts and events established in those. Rather that Superman existed on Earth at some point but that's it. And here in lies the problem for me. Singer doesn't seem to know whether he wants it to be a sequel or not.

If they get it right, they can probably see a future of releases now that it has been reborn, all new young fans etc.

Lets hope they write in the storyline with the little kid and we find out how (although I morealess have an idea).

Wiki (with citations says):

A film production budget determines how much money will be spent on the entire film project. It involves the identification and estimation of cost items for each phase of filmmaking (development, pre-production, production, post-production and distribution).
As I understand it, studios normally take about 70 cents in every dollar in tickets. I'm not sure if the theatre's cut is counted in the box office totals or not.

Agreed. I quite enjoyed it on first viewing in the cinema but any time I've watched it since I find it a drag.

Also, Bosworth was not right for Lois, and the land plot was ridiculous. It just felt like they didn't have any new ideas except for the addition of the kid.

I hope the sequel, if or when it happens, is better.

Like I said I was very disappointed with the first film of the new franchise!! I hope for more action which we have been promised, more daylight scenes and a brighter red on SM`s costume...

fingers crossed

at least Lois lane will look older a little anyways, whixh was also a big problem for me..

Not a bad movie, I hope that a sequel can build on the good bits and tell a new story rather than another Lex Luthor tries to rule the world affair...

I would like to see a story a huge crisis for Superman to try and fight - not Zod, that has been done and still stanRAB out as the best Superman movie.

Maybe something along the lines of the Doomsday / The Death Of Superman?

The latest Superman sequel reports that i heard confirmed that Bryan Singer has been tapped to be the director.

Hope this time he made a better Superman sequel with more actions.

Totally. I could sort of buy Brandon Routh as the same Clark Kent/Superman as Christopher Reeve, but Bosworth just seemed a totally different character.

I think I wanted to like the film from a nostalgic point of view given Superman the Movie and Superman 2 are my two all time favourite comic book movies. SR almost had everything right, the music, the opening titles etc, but something just didn't seem right. So I would have still preferred a completely independent and fresh take on Superman.

I too hope that is the way they take it, surprised they didn't already have a sequel in the making.
Still want to know if the kid did open the door on the ship or not.

I also grew up with the superman movies and have all on dvd including 4 although it is the weakest.
But still won't get anyone who can fill Chris Reeves place.

Please God, let them recast the sequel.

Ditch Kate Bosworth, who was just terrible as Lois. Rachel McAdams (in Mean Girls) would be an ideal replacement. Frank Langella was in no way shape or form a true Perry White. If Alec Baldwin is available, get him. As for Brandon Routh, I sincerely hope the time between SR and the forthcoming sequel will be used to bulk up his physique as well as his acting skills. Superman / Clark Kent in SR was effectively a cameo part in his own movie.

And no sequence in SR had anything near the 'wow' factor as the helicopter rescue in Superman The Movie. The definitive Superman moment.

But it seems as long as Singer is onboard, then Spacey (and Bosworth) will follow in tow and (dis)grace all future Superman movies.
