It would be nice if they had cameos by characters such as the Flash, Batman, Constantine, Martian Manhunter, Captain Marvel etc... but no . He has to save Lois and do 'battle' with Lex again.
They should do another trailer and this time leave the music in one piece.
I have seen the full movie and it's well worth checking out. Very impressive. Well cast, looks great and just the right mix of action, lighter moments and drama. A great summer blockbuster.
I can't wait to see this film, what makes it even better is that I'm lucky enough to go and see it on the 14th at the IMax in London with my college should be good!
I cant believe people in the UK have to wait 2 weeks untill the 14th of July to see Superman Returns when it is released in the US on the 30th June. What happened to these worldwide release dates for the massive blockbusters!
apparantly its bombing at the box office, well its doing well but not what Warner wanted....after its 1st 3 days and just about 50 mill done its not the best start.... remember few weeks ago Xmen 3 on its opening night did 44 mill !
We get a cameo in the shape of the Bearded One and Spawn (Richard Branson).
I don't really know that much about Superman but from watching Justice League there are so many more interesting villians out there. Why couldn't they use one of those? Brainiac, Darkseid, bizzaro - a villian that might actually tax Superman. He's been away twenty years and not a whole lot has changed.
Batman Begins had the right idea introducing another villian from the comics.
Would you mind expanding a little? Use spoiler tags if you must. I just want to know what new things do we learn about Superman that we didn't already know?
I've been reading a lot of critics praising this movie and I honestly cannot see why. It's like they're just thowing out adjectives that don't mean anything!!
It reminRAB me of when Alan Moore said that most writers don't know how to write superheroes... because they take them too seriously.
I've just watched the trailer, and my initial impression is - WOW!!
I am so looking forward to this film.
I thought that what we saw of Brandon Rooth brought back the feel of Chris Reeve in the role.
Lex, while looking a bit more like the business man Lex of the comics, had flashes of the manic Lex from the original films, but not too much to ruin my view of what Lex should be (I prefer the Smallville Lex to the original film Lex).
The original score was used superbly, and as I'm sure people will agree could not have been bettered.
While I can see what others mean when they say "does it have to be Lex again", I think it is the classic rivalry and its use is justified in bringing the superman films back to us.
Hopefully any following sequels will include some adverseries more on Superman's physical level too though.
This was on Dark Horizons website about Superman Returns box office status:
"
In regarRAB to the returns that mean the most to "Superman" - the financial, there's a definite sign that things don't look as healthy for the Kryptonian as once hoped.
After a solid opening day on Wednesday and a decent day on Thursday, "Superman Returns" didn't expand as much as hoped on Friday (though Saturday picked up slightly) and looks set to take in around $52 million dollars for its Friday-Sunday opening weekend total (the film thus taking in $84 million in its first five days). Even with an expected upsurge with the next two days being time off for a lot of people, the film looks like it will take in somewhere around $110 million in its first week.
In comparison "X-Men: The Last Stand" reached $102 million in its first three days, whilst last year's July 4th holiday weekend film "War of the WorlRAB" took in $121 million (and that's without the benefit of the extra holiday days) in its first week. Already estimates are being thrown about that 'Returns' will top out at around $210-240 million, around or a smidgen above last year's "Batman Begins" ($205m). That film though had a budget that was $100 million cheaper, significantly less promotion and family appeal, and didn't have the benefit of coming out on a holiday weekend.
There's also the word of mouth factor to consider - though not as well-received as "Spider-Man 2" or "Batman Begins", 'Returns' received predominantly good-great reviews which would allow for strong repeat business. 'Begins' last year took a $48 million opening, considered a disappointment, and turned it into a very good run that earned more than four times that amount in total (most Marvel comic films by comparison earn only 2-3 times at most their opening weekend total). It's expected 'Superman' will follow a similar high ratio path.
The other wide newcomer this week was the Meryl Streep dark comedy "The Devil Wears Prada" which nabbed a stellar $27 million on opening and proving an excellent example of counter-programming. It's $9,483 per theatre take was also very strong, beaten only by Superman ($12,829) the limited release film version of comedy "Strangers with Candy" which took in $22,250 per theatre in its two screen debut."
I thought Routh was a great Superman as he looks the part and tones down the "bumbling Clark Kent" side of his persona nicely making him unlucky rather than a klutz, although his Superman interpretaion can be a little flat sometimes. Over all a nice interpretation of the character.
I thougt Spacey was very enjoyable as Luther. He had the slight campy/panto villianous edge without over playing it. He also had the taunt charisma the character neeRAB.
Bosworth and Marsden usually leave me cold or indifferent but they pulled half decent performances out of the bag - not Oscar winning, but good enough.
The film looks great in every aspect from design to execution and the storyline doesn't have too much of any one thing like romance, action, drama etc and in general keeps it simple and very clear what is happening and why. It's pretty evenly balanced.
Is it the best film ever? No. Will it do well at the box office? I think it will do well. Is it worth the ticket price? Yes.
Oh, and you want a spoiler? Here's a doozy!
Lois Lane's kid? Clark Kent/Superman is the father!
I agree that we already have a more than capable Kent/Luther/Lane in Smallville but I think there is room for both interpretations. After all, both have their merits and their flaws.
This is a solid summer blockbuster that I think will find it's feet nicely and have a slow build rather than a huge opening weeken. However, $50M is a respectable figure (it's brilliant either but...) and far from "bombing at the box office" as one poster on here claimed. I think it will; find it's feet this week and end up with a nice financial return at the end of it's run.
From what I understand, yes, it is less than Warner had hoped, but I think there are plenty of directors and studios in Hollywood who would be more than happy with "bombing" at the box office with an opening weekend worth $50M...
Also, I would blame the "marketing machine" rather than the film for the lower-than-expected returns as I have seen much more publicity for POTCMC than Superman.
You might laugh at this - or not - but the face in the ice (in fortress of solitude) at the start of the trailer doesn't half look like George W. Bush Jnr!
I'm really looking forward to this film being a fan of the original ones. I must admit I hate the look of his suit and the fake muscles. Like the ones you buy for kiRAB to dress up in
