Superman Chosen?

I do like the idea of Kevin Spacey being cast as Lex Luther however I dont know how much truth is in that rumour. I definatly think he would be better than Johnny Depp as Lex Luther. However is it definate that Lex Luther will feature as the main villian in this new Superman film or is it just a rumour that has carried on from the McG days as director?

Here is the shortlist of 6 actress for the role of Lois Lane:

Mischa Barton from "The O.C.", Charisma Charpenter from "Angel," Mia Kirshner from "The Crow: City of Angels," Evangeline Lilly from "Lost," Natalie Portman from the "Star Wars" prequels, and Keri Russell from "Felicity".

I dont know that many of them so I cant tell if they are suitable for the role but I am surprised to see Charisma Charpenter in the short list!

Thanks Kombat Wombat but I already confirmed that the Gambon rumour was false and if you had read my post you would have seen that I stated the synopsis was similar to the synopsis of the Kevin Smith script of Superman Lives film already. Thanks for the effort though!

Good point actually! Dunno! Would be interesting if they used a different main villain. I suspect Lex would still at least feature though if that was the case. I suppose he's the obvious choice of villan to bring in though, being Superman's main/most well know nemesis. :)

Kal Penn ('Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle') will not be playing Superman's best friend; he has actually been cast as a character called "Riley", Lex Luthor's lead henchman.

There is a rumour going around that Brandon Routh, who has been signed to play Superman has been replaced by Tom Welling, who plays young Clark Kent on Smallville. This is due to Warner Bros is bowing to internet fan "pressure" apparently. However filming is due to start in 2 weeks so we will see then!

Here is a brief synopsis that has appeared for the new Superman film:

While Superman has been gone on a 6 year round trip to Krypton to see if he is indeed the last son of that doomed planet, Lois Lane has moved on with her life. Lois Lane now has a five-year-old son and the father is no other than Richard White, played by James Marsden. When Superman returns Lois and Richard are engaged to be married.
Also there will be at least two suits used in the film. The original classic costume and the other one will be (his space suit) for his journey back to Krypton!

Damn! Beat me to it! ;)

From article about the fact that theWB are deperate to do something with Angel (possibly even bring back the series!) Problem is getting the cast to come back, as they have all moved on to new projects. That'll teach them to make dumb snap decisions!.. Yes, I'm STILL bitter... ;)

Anyway, from buffy.nu:

..."But there

It is rumoured they are actually trying to get Marlon Brando to play Jor-El... No, I'm not going crazy. ;)

There was apparently a lot of extra footage shot from Superman, and Singer is keen to see if they can do something with it in the new film... Lot's of legal issues, and right issues from his estate, plus they aren't sure on the quality of the footage etc... but they are apparently looking into it.

Yeah I had also read on Cinescape in the same article with the short list of actress that Amy Acker was being considered before for the part of Lois Lane however her name was not included on the short list of the six actress. So it looks like she might not still be in the running for the part of Lois Lane which is pity as I think she could be a good choice as well!

More Superman casting as Parker Posey will play Kitty Koslowski, Lex Luthor's villainous henchwoman. Also Kal Penn will portray Stanford, Luthor's right-hand man!

Superman writer Dan Harris spoke with the Chicago Sun-Times and revealed that "He'll begin in his late 20s. He lost his powers in 'Superman 2' and now he has the powers back. But something has happened because he's been away for a long time...We're taking off from the first two Superman films with Christopher Reeve. We use his history and then move on with big twists and great special effects. We're not going to do the origin story again. Our view is if you're over 25 years old, then you've seen the Reeve films and that's Superman to you. If you're under 25, then you watch TV's 'Smallville,' and that's Superman to you".

Appartently two people who have been cast as extras in a pivotal scene in Superman Returns and have been talking about it:

"My mates are going to be in a pivotal extra's scene being filmed in 2 weeks time. The 15 hour shoot describes a scene where superman is 'dying' and 'very sick' and the extras are being advised to wear 'wake like' clothes to be filmed in a still undisclosed city location. Interesting, that it's not fox studios, so I'm gathering it's a pretty big external shot. My casting source in Fox suggests it's a funeral scene, but I can't be absoultly sure. He says the script is locked tight, but because of casting sessions, plot details are leaking. My friend also said it has something to do with the death of superman, a rumored plot line that Bryan Singer is no doubt hanging onto. Expect the tears to be flowing from Kate Bosworth and an E.T like 'death' scene.. where superman no doubt rises from the grave, following Bryan Singers earlier worRAB that Superman will appear in this film as a form of Messiah. The pieces are all finally coming together".

There has been a chance in the Superman cast as Hugh Laurie has backed out of his agreement to play Perry White. The April issue of Entertainment Weekly indicates that Hugh's highly successful TV show, HOUSE md (produced by Bryan Singer) will start its new season in August, meaning Hugh Laurie is unable to play the role of Perry White. So Actor Frank Langella has stepped into the role of Superman's boss, Perry White!

Bryan Singer has been talking recently about the crash site set in the new Superman film which he said isn't set in Superman child hood but in fact from his return to Earth at the beginning of the film!

Smallville writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said that there could be a link between the Superman Returns movie and the WB series, "We had a discussion with Bryan Singer and even if we're kept to the secret for the moment, we can tell you that something's going to happen in the fifth season of Smallville that will have an impact on the Superman returns movie".

Here is a description of a scene being filmed for the new Superman Returns film:

"They were filming a scene outside a building which they converted into Metropolis General Hospital. This was reportedly the largest scene they'd be shooting for the movie, with around 1,300 extras being employed for the scene. The extras were used as crowd, standing around outside the Hospital, holding banners and waving flags. The banners read, "Save Our Superman", "I love Superman", "Superman Don't Die!", "God Speed Superman". There were also dozens and dozens of flower arrangements lying in the park (as if in tribute for someone who was sick or dying)", he says. "I'm assuming this means Superman gets very badly injured (or possibly killed) during the movie, making it necessary for him to be taken to hospital".

So this could be part of the death of Superman that is rumoured to take place in Superman Returns!
