Yeah there seems to be a lot of rumour about casting for Jimmy Oslen and Lois Lane. It does seem strange that after casting Superman they havnt announced any of the other cast yet. It may be that Bryan Singer is taking his time with casting to make the right choice!
Bryan Singer has described the approach he and his X2 writers Dan Harris and Mike Dougherty have taken to the latest incarnation of the last Kryptonian: “It's not an origin story; I didn't want to remake what Richard Donner did so well in the original, and didn't want to tread on the great work they're doing on 'Smallville.' He's already part of the culture; he has left the planet. This is the story of his return."
Also Kevin Spacey is a definatly playing Lex Luthor Superman film.
Spacey's been long linked to the role but it was all dependent on scheduling. Spacey, who is in rehearsals for "National Anthems" at the Old Vic theatre, will do a limited run of "The Philadelphia Story" at the theater before moving on to "Superman", which has a March start date.
Kate Bosworth has signed on as Lois Lane too.
I read on imdb.com that Mischa Barton was being considered for the role of Lois Lane and Topher Grace of 'That 70s Show' fame was going to be Jimmy.
I can understand Topher, but Mishca Barton I think may be a mistake. She isn't ugly, thats not the problem. I just can't help feeling that this film might end up all weird with such a young cast (think Bugsy Malone).
I have just read that Evangeline Lilly who stars in a new American series called Lost has appartenly screen tested for Lois Lane. Singer has said all along that he wanted unknowns to play Clark and Lois!
I have also heard rumours that the new Superman film will not be a major reworking but will pick up after Superman 2 and that Terrence Stamp, who played General Zod could feature in the new film. However I will take that rumour with a massive pinch of salt!
Well at least they are going with that craptastic script where they redrew the entire Superman history where Krypton contary to popular belief did not blow up and the less said about that the better.
"He [Singer] also talked about how and his writing parterns crafted a story which could be compared to Tim Burton's Batman (1989). He said that he is going to have the first two films serve as a sort of vague history, and that this next film will pick up after Superman has been gone for 6 years. He said that the story is going to approach Superman as sort of being a returning Messiah (sp). Singer also had an interesting comment that people in the movie sort of wish that Superman had never existed, because once he disappeared, the world fell into chaos..."
There is also some stuff about the suit and the flying rigs in the post:
After Kevin Spacey being cast as Lex Luther and Kate Bosworth being cast as Lois Lane. They have announced more members of the Superman cast as Hugh Laurie will be playing Perry White (Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Planet) and James Marsden from X Men 1 and 2 will be playing a new character Richard White (Lois Lane’s love interest and son of Perry White!).
Sam Huntington, best known for his roles in the films "Not Another Teen Movie" and "Jungle2Jungle", has won the much coveted role of Jimmy Olsen in Bryan Singer's new "Superman" film!
how old should the lois lane character be? she is a news reporter and a rather successful one (is she not), therefore it neeRAB to be someone over 25 if you ask me. possible a 30 year old. that mishca barton is younger than i am, and i am only 21.
Michael Gambon has been cast as Jor-El, Kal-El's (Superman's) father in the new Superman film.
This is a new synopsis of the film but is does sound very similar to the Kevin Smith script version that was around a few years ago:
"From Bryan Singer, director of the X-Men films, comes a new chapter in the Superman saga. Metropolis' villainous Lex Luthor (Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey - American Beauty, The Usual Suspects) allies himself with a malevolent alien, a demonic brainiac from Krypton, who's out to kill Superman. Superman is overmatched and dies . . . until he's resurrected by an ally from Krypton. Thanks to the love he shares with Lois Lane, he's given his super strength back in the action-filled thriller Superman Returns".
As most of these address are unknown I dont know how old they are but I do agree that Lois Lane neeRAB to be at least over 25. Especially as you have now got the Smallville series in which the majority of those actors and actress in that are in their early 20s. Lois Lane is also going to feature in the next series of Smallville so you dont want a younger actress playing Lois Lane in the film than in the series as it wont make much sense!
Mischa Barton isn't a very good actress and i pray to God that Beyonnce isn't louise Lane...she is worse than Mischa Barton . i think the theme of casting unknowns should continue.
I have to agree with Michelle, superman is going to end up like a bad remake of bugsy Malone without the music to look forward to.
Michael Gambon has not been cast in the role of Superman's father Jor-El as that was just a false rumour however Eva Marie Saint ["North by Northwest"] has been cast as Martha Kent!
Dont think that Mischa burton is quite right for it, but if this guy whose ment to be playing superman is younger than the guy in smallville, then Lois Lane has to be quite youngish, or Superman would be almost her toyboy!
Warner Bros. has set a June 30, 2006 US release date for director Bryan Singer's Superman, starring Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth, Kevin Spacey, James Marsden, Hugh Laurie, Sam Huntington, and Eva Marie Saint.
as for beyonce/barton being lois lane i doubt it very much seeing as the film is set 6 years after the last superman film the actress would have to be much older/talented.
Rumours are going around that Famke Janssen has indeed got a role in "Superman" and will be taking on the role of Lara, Kal-El's birth mother from Krypton. Also that Daniel Day Lewis has got the role of Jor-El, Kal's dad. The other cast member that are rumoured are Kevin Bacon will apparently play John Corbin, Jude Law is set to play General Zod and "Saving Private Ryan" star Barry Pepper will play the part of a Daily Planet rival of Clark's.
These rumours have not been confirmed so they may be 100% false especially with Famke Janssen coments yesterday about her next project being X Men 3!
Couple more bits. Singer has confirmed Brandon Routh as Superman.
And on to other casting...
"The role of Lex Luthor won't go to an unknown, at least not according to Kevin Smith on a recent interview with the NY Post and other reliable sources. Kevin Spacey is Bryan Singers number one choice to become Superman's arch nemesis.
Bryan Singer and Kevin Spacey have been frienRAB ever since the pairing up in the breakout hit The Usual Suspects. Official announcements should be forth coming from Warner Bros. in the next few days."
I can see Spacey doing a good job with it. That'd be sweet.
