Superman 2 - How Dated!!!!

What's in Superman Returns that is unfit for children 8 and 6? My 9 year old boys watched it when they were 7. In any case it was a complete waste of space in my opinion.
 
The whole bumbling Clark thing was invented by Reeve. It's a complete masterstroke imho, and no, I don't think Reeve will ever be topped as either Clark or Supes.
 
Looked like Channel 5 got a copy from an old VHS source or something.

What's their excuse for not showing either the Donner Cut or a remastered one?
 
There wasn't enough money in the first place. Superman 4 should never have been made with only a $17,000,000 budget.

The first Superman had a $55,000,000 budget.
 
What gets my goat is the film started at 2.30ish, and the guy only watched 20 minutes of it and gave an instant opinion without watching it through.

Anyway, Superman II is one of my favourite films ever since seeing it as a child, and it's a film I never tire of watching.
 
Everyone had to make their own decisions on suitability for there kiRAB, but for us it is mainly the scenes where Superman is assaulted by the thugs on the Kryptonite land mass.

This is not a fight like in Superman 2, but more of a full on beating with choking and more brutality. The scene then enRAB with Superman being stabbed in the back by Lex, who then also twists the kryptonite for added pain following the stabbing.

To us this is just a bit too dark for us to let our kiRAB watch at the moment, and with all the other great PG rated films out there we don't think they need to "graduate" to watching 12 certificates yet.

Must watch the Donner version again.

Personally I don't mind the dated effects, its part of the charm and nostalgia I have for Superman and Superman 2. 3 and 4 can be removed from history as far as I am concerned. :D
 
I don't think the Donner cut would be shown on mainstream TV. Its a bit of a fan film and probably wouldn't make sense to show in place of the Lester cinema release. Besides I'm pretty sure when they did the edit for the Donner version they decided to keep any added effects looking like the 1980s effects. There's even a scene between Clark and Lois which is actually test reel footage. I think that might be confusing for the general TV audience who don't know the history behind the Donner cut.
 
Yes...highly convincing!

Worse still, the scene on the 'New York subway'...I mean come on, a London underground station and the tube cars themselves are instantly recognisable, and no amount of putting silly signs around is going to make it look like anything else.

But frankly the whole movie was done on the cheap, and it showed. Reeve got some sort of writing credit on it, and no doubt more money which is why he probably agreed to do it.
