I love all the old films, have loaRAB of them and could act them but funnily enough have never watched Sunset Boulevard until yesterday!!!!! Boy oh boy what a shock !!!! Brilliant film that still stanRAB the test of time. They don't make fims like that any more !

i only saw it a few years ago as well. i colleague of mine was 40's/golden age hollywood oppsessed. and i asked him to list all of his favourite movies.
Saw some great classic movies.
this was one of them. and loved how it started with our hero dead!!

so then they made a big Broadway musical of this...

and it was rumoured (i havent checked latey) they are making a big film of the hollywood musical based on the original film!
with Glenn Close as Norma.

Think The Producers!

but after a basic quick search - it looks like that isnt going to happen.

Would love to see the musical made into a film a la Evita

Glen Close, Streisand, Streep and Liza have all been rumoured for the lead

Why?

The music does not add anything to the story or the atmosphere if anything the music detracts from the story in this musical

I really don't think it should become a film musical.

Sunset Boulevard is both darkly comic and darkly disturbing. They certainly don't - nay, can't make 'dark' films like that anymore - now it's all 'ooh, rape their senses, that'll do it'.

Yeah a great film. Love the line:"She's ready for her close up Mr Demille." Ironically this is one of the few cases of a film getting adapted into another medium(when the musical got made in the 1990s with Faye Dunaway, although she was supposed to be in it but pull out I think). I have never seen the musical, apparently it is getting made into a film.

I'm not saying the original film neeRAB replacing in any way. It's a classic

Personally, I loved the stage version and I'd like to see that incarnation re-imaged on the big screen

Not a better version of the original, just a differant interpretation

One of my all time favourites and should it not be messed with. No remakes (with Hollywood as the good guys obviously) and definitely no musicals.

I understand people objecting to cover versions of classic songs because they can creep surreptitiously into your brain via the radio.

But seeing as you have to make a conscious decision to watch a movie, I don't see the problem.

Just vote with your feet.

Simples!!

great, great, great movie - just brilliant.
I went to see the stage show a couple of times - with Elaine Paige - and that was impressive as well - great score with this overpowering stair case that dominates the stage and when EP comes down those stairs, fully made up it was just so dramatic!
There was also - last year - a very stripped down version directed by Craig Revel Horwood (from Strictly Come Dancing) on in the West End - no big set, all the actors played the instruments and sang the songs - again very impressive.
A brilliant story which works on many levels.
