Suggested New Year's resolutions for Hollywood...

Reflecting on a pretty poor year for movies, these are some of the things I'd like Hollywood bosses to stop / start doing in 2007.

- less Owen Wilson (You, Me & Dupree / Cars / Night at the Museum..)

- no more crappy animal oriented CGI movies, puhleeease!

- no more sequels to lame movies eg, Evan Almighty / Hostel 2 etc

- new Tarantino movies please

Anyone else got any?

- think up some new ideas, less god damn remakes

- less rappers turned actors

- less johnny knoxville

- stop doing american pie spin off movies

- No more lame romantic comedies, especially ones starring Jennifer Aniston

- No more crap remakes of classic horror films

- No more lame CGI cartoons which look very pretty but have no plot

Thought of a few more...

- no more 2nd rate superhero movies eg. Ghost Rider, Hell Boy 2, Iron Man. All due to be released / in production in 2007. These just give the good superhero flicks a bad rep.

- no more Fast & Furious / gear head movies (see lame sequels)

- no more so called 'horror' movies with 12 / 15 certs eg, An American Haunting / The Fog / The Grudge. Horrors must carry mandatory 18 certs.

- no Japanese horror remakes!!

I sense a lot of you guys hate remakes as much as me

I was going to say no more rubbish sequels, but you beat me to it!

I'm just dreading some twit making "gone with the wind 2"

Hey this is an interesting thread.

I agree, no more of these flippin CGI movies with cutesy animals in them. I'm so sick of them. Seems all they do is get a bunch of famous actors and stick their voices in some crappy film about stupid animals.

Pixar did this far better already and did it without having to use big name actors, because they actually had decent scripts.

Whenever I see a trailer for these films the celeb voices stick out like a sore thumb. They are too distracting and dont go with the characters. So no more of these films please.

Also less of a divison between popcorn entertainment movies and "highbrow" serious films, which seem designed solely to get a load of Oscar nominations. Why cant a film be both fun and have something interesting, important to say?

Also please send Sylvester Stallone back to the retirement home. That trailer for Rocky balboa looks so stupid. He can hardly talk properly.

Less of those frat-pack "comedies". More Steve Carell (sp?) though and Will Ferell. Much less Ben Stiller.

No more parody movies....ever!

I just caught the trailer for Scary Movie 5 / Epic Movie. What on earth are these guys on?? The first one was hardly the calibre of the Airplane movies and cannot believe a franchise has been built out of this. I despair.

No more two-bit fantasy movies, all seeking to replicate the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Narnia hardly set the world alight and the reviews for Eragon were universally appalling. Yet, these will all be given the green light for 2nd/3rd installments.

And it's too late, but resurrecting long dead franchises for another spin eg, Rocky Balboa, Die Hard 4, Terminator 4, Rambo IV, Superman Returns etc just shows how bereft Hollywood is of originality.

No movie versions of TV shows - Charlies Angels (please don't let them do a CA:3) Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky & Hutch). These all SUCKED! Cannot believe a Knight Rider movie is on the horizon and there are rumours of an A Team feature. The Simpsons Movie will be a huge hit, but true Simpsons fans (series 1-8 buRAB), are probably dreading the film.

Nice way to start the New Year, eh? ;)

^^ Agreed. 2006 has been terrible. back in the late 90s/early 00's I'd go to the cinema several times a month, now it seems more like several times a year - nothing ever seems worth it, it's all jaded sequels or CGI stuff that although mildly entertaining has been done to death.

In 2007 I'd like more originality, no more sequels, no more Asian remakes (or any remakes) and for lesser-known, talented actors to get a chance in major productions, instead of playing safe by recycling the same old tired faces.

Less films with PG or 12 certificates. Give us some proper 18 material. There have been very few films released recently with an 18. Stop pandering to the big market family audiences with PG and 12 films, give us something!!!

And also resurrect the RoboCop franchise with a new movie directed by Paul Verhoven and a mandatory 18 certificate. Kind of like what they did with Batman Begins, only bloodier and more sweary!

Paddy :D
