You make a valid point about publicly owned care homes having been sold off and then shut down when they were unable to afford compliance with the barrage of legislation that has been heaped on them. In that respect, I think the Thatcher years followed by the Big Brother state will be seen as one of the darker period in British history.
Whatever we may think of Margaret Thatcher's past, I honestly believe she has the same rights as any other person to be treated respectfully and to be allowed to live her life in as much dignity as possible in a place of her choosing. The expression 'put in a care home' sends the wrong message. Age will come to us all so my inclination is to display the sort of respect I would like to be shown when I am in her position. Shame there won't be any care homes for me.
