Sudden pain left side of head from the base of the head up

Hello,

I have sudden pain on the left side of my head starting from the base of my head up. I notice it only comes up when I start to do anything physical like exercising or going for a run. It comes on suddenly and sharp and won't go away until I'm practically motionless. I'm waiting on a blood test but does anyone else suffer from this? Don't know what it could be but I suspect I could be diabetic?

If you get a sudden severe headache, you should go to an emergency room and be seen. They can give you an MRI and find out what is happening. I had a subdural hemmorhage in 2007 and waited too long! I am lucky to still be here. They had to do surgery on me. If I had been checked sooner, it might not have been as bad. You may need a contrast MRI to find out what is going on. Don't wait to be seen!

If you have a sudden severe headache go to an emergency room and be seen right away. I waited almost too long in 2007 and had to have emergency surgery after 2 weeks.

I have had similar pain in the past. The fact that it happens to you with movement and gets better upon rest or not moving it suggests it is either muscular or nerve related. Pinched nerve possibly. I saw a chiropractor for mine and I have been fine ever since . Good luck !

Thank you so much but I went to the hospital straight after I got the headache which was on Saturday (just past) and they tested my blood pressure which turned out to be normal and then sent me off with panadeineforte. Said they didn't want to waste my time (or theirs) doing a blood test. So the next day (Sunday) I went to my own GP to do the blood test but had problems finding my veins lol but managed to get my blood test done on Monday so now just waiting for results. Should be ready by Wednesday. If that doesn't show anything then I'm getting a scan done pronto. I hope I'm not too late!

It was not too late for me after two weeks, as I survived, but the ER doctors were not happy I had waited so long. Please don't wait too long. I have now read that a severe sudden headache can be a sign of a stroke, and a sign to go to ER> If your doctors don't do an MRI, and you continue to have a severe headache, I would go to an Emergency Room. I had a brain hemmorhage which could kill. What they told me is that a really sudden severe headache should be checked with a contrast MRI. When they did that they could see that blood was inside my skull pressing on my brain. By the time I went to ER, I had slurred speaking and numbness in my hand on the opposite side from the severe headache. I had surgery the very night I went to ER and there for 10 days. I don't want to scare you, but spare you a lot of recovery time. Best wishes and hope you feel better soon!!!!!

You maybe right?! I've gotten back results and everything has come up normal ie: blood pressure, blood tests and Ct Head Scan. My Doctor was cranky when consenting to the CT Scan, didn't see the point when the blood test came back normal. What's with these Doctors?! Anyway I'm going to request an MRI Scan just to be on the safe side. In the meantime I'm still getting severe headaches every time I do something physical. If you think it is muscular or a pinched nerve how can I be sure of that? Just go to a Chiropractor? I mean how did you know to get yourself off to the Chiropractor?

I am glad all of your blood work came back fine ! That is a good sign. The reason I went to the chiropractor for it in the first place was because of the fact that I was getting migraines and waking up with headaches which I had never had before. I knew that the headache would start at the base of my neck and eventually just get worse..it was not a typical headache , it did feel more like muscles . If I got myself into a position that was comfortable , it would just go away. So I knew it was a nerve or something out of place. I went and told him my symptoms and just by checking my neck , head and spine he could tell exactly where I was out of place ! The first time he adjusted me I felt the improvement right away ! Now I just go for maintenance. It would not hurt to just go and give it a try. It really does sound to me like it has something to do with your neck or back. The sheer fact that it is brought on by certain movements and it helps when you rest it just screams to me muscular or nerves ! Give it a try and let me know how it goes. I will tell you I tried a chiropractor that does the no manipulation approach and it did not work . I was so out of whack I really needed to be put back in place the right way !
