Sudden onslaught of symptoms. In bad shape.

Hello, i'd appreciate any feedback! the last month and a half have been tough.

im 24 years old, male. no previous health issues. athlete, in good shape. great nutritional habits. not a user of any drugs.

For the past 6 weeks, I have been experiencing the following symptoms on/off. At first, they were extremely strong and I ended up seeing a Neurologist (more on that later)...

Day 1 (friday)... out of nowhere- while at work, I experienced a pressure behind my right eye (not a painful feeling, but noticeable pressure). followed by a good amount of brain fog / shortness of breath / tight chest / slight dizziness and loss of focus.

the symptoms were very strong, and came so quickly/strong that i couldn't do my job at all. i had to leave work, and almost couldn't make the drive home (light headiness, brain fog, shortness of breath and tight chest, with slight pressure in my head).

after i got home, i took some otc medicine for the headache and rested. they symptoms remained throughout the day, although not as strong.

Day 2, still experiencing symptoms described above - although not nearly as strong. for the entire day i was out of it, unable to focus, shortness of breath, etc.

Day 3, i felt better in the morning and afternoon. still had a bit of brain fog. later in the evening i felt healthy enough to go out (but mainly, i just wanted to take my mind of what has been going on - it was all pretty scary!) i went to a concert with a friend, but it was a disaster. during the concert i became very short of breath, light headed, with the feeling of pressure in my chest. it got so bad that i thought i would need to go to the hospital (very difficult breathing, loss of focus, tight feeling in chest, brain fog). during my drive home, i almost had to pull over due to the fact that i thought i would pass out. at the same time i began to feel slight tingling/odd sensation in my right arm and leg. when i got home i felt very restless, i couldnt think straight, focus, or breath comfortably. i forced myself to sit, watch a movie - eventually all the symptoms passed.

day 4 (monday), i made an appointment with a neurologist (suggested by a family friend, who recognized some of the symptoms). i felt better this day, but not nearly 100%. still foggy, slightly dizzy, surreal feeling.

doc set me up with MRI and EEG, both eventually came back negative (he was thinking seizure). he felt that perhaps i have been experiencing anxiety, and prescribed small doses of xanax (the xanax does help).

since then, the symptoms slowly improved - but have not disappeared completely. by "improved", i mean they are less frequent. but still, sometimes they return and are just as intense as the first day (sometimes less intense) they return at the most random moments, but mostly in the evenings. such spells usually last 20-30 minutes.

is there anything out there that might cause such a sudden onslaught of symptoms? thanks for reading. i need a nap, haha

Whenever there is a "sudden" onset of symptoms, and no medical explanation, I would consider lyme's disease which can mimic over 200 different conditons and ususally doesn't show up on tests.

Just a FEW of the symptoms that some people get are the one's you've described...other symptoms can be yeast infections, tmj, bone and joint problems, changes in skin, etc. Some people present with only one symptom, others seem to present with many.

Symptoms can occur months or years after being infected...they can come and go...

thanks for the response. yeast has come up in some of my research, and lymes too... i will look a bit closer into both.

its exausting... im at the point where some days i feel pretty good. other days i feel like crap.

It sounds like anxiety attacks to me. Especially if the xanax has helped some.
If everything else medical is ruled out, you may want to try and anti-anxiety/anti-depressant such as Paxil. Check out the anxiety board - you will see a lot of posts that sound just like your's.

I hope you are back to your old self soon.
Best wishes,

JB

granny. i appreciate that. a lot of people are saying anxiety.

i tried the spit test for yeast yesterday, test came out positive (saliva sank, string like legs and some cloudiness with particles.) im really curious as to how this could be related to the symptoms from above.

im also experiencing concentrated yeast infection like symptoms on my groin (something that OTC topical has helped with a little bit, but not completely cured).

i have an appointment on tuesday with a dermatologist to look at the skin issue, perhaps the Dr. can shed light on a possible connection

I suspect the connection may be lyme's disease...you might want to do some reading about lyme's and candida and diet.

Treating the yeast infection may only be treating a symptom...you've got a variety of symptoms which suggests something else is causing your multiple problems.

as far as my diet, for the past two years i have been following an extremely healthy diet. i eat 6 small meals a day, all natural foods. chicken, vegetables, whole grain, fish oil supplements.

i have not had soda or any type of soft drink in 4 years. i dont eat candy (but i do have 1 square of dark chocolate 87% a day). dont drink coffee. sugar intake is pretty much non existant.

i just cant see how my current diet would contribute to yeast problems. but hey, i did fail the spit test.

i checked for clinics that checks for lyme's, and the medical building i go to is listed. so ill see what i can do there.

I believe whole grains and carbs pose problems for some people, but I don't know.

Have no idea what that spit test is all about.

Lab tests are of very limited value when testing for lyme...you might want to do some reading on the lyme boards regarding Lyme Literate Medical Doctors. Too many docs profess a knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment without having the expertise to do so.
