Sudden flashes of light in pitch black with eyes wide open?

I left my computer room to go to the bathroom, and it's pitch black. My eyes are open and I suddenly see bright bold streaks/flashes of light in my vision, almost strobe light -like. It scared me to death. I've noticed more floaters in my vision the past few months, but no other real vision problems. And my eyes weren't closed, they were /wide open/. What could this be?

I'm 18, female, no preg, no alcohol, no drugs, no meds (minus tylenol sinus), no known pre-existing medical conditions. If someone has any idea please tell me.
I forgot to mention I have had similar sensations with my eyes closed, though not in the past few days, and not as severe. These seemed very real.
 
I believe its called "seeing stars". I used to have this along with severe headache. I ended up needing surgery, but my advice to you is go get your eyes checked. I had pressure on the optic nerve which was causing the stars and blurred vision. The eye doc can see that right away. You should get checked.
 
This has happend to me all my life its just the sudden change of the light to darkness..nothing to worry about
