Such a dissapointment, what you think ?

I use a Shoei Multitec modular (flip-up) helment on my Ultra and it is quiet, buffeting-free, and the most comfortable helmet I've ever owned.
 
It's the fullface... you would probably feel the problem in the bike. Certain fullface helmets really capture the noise and kill you. The best i have had was my Arai but you were talking about a 700$ helmet. I have probably 2 of each type of helmet. I wear my DOT polo most of the time (NC Laws and all). My suggestion if you sell this one or look for another one, find the closest Cycle Gear shop (i put a link below). One of the only places that give you a 7 return period on your helmets. Most places, you walk out the door and it is yours. That doesn't do any good in my opinion. In my years of riding i have found that it takes and hour at highway speeds to truly find the hotsports. Then it's too late!

My RF-1000 is loud as heck too..... I have custom plugs now wich aren't too bad, but the best thing I ever used were the S-plugs.... they sealed up better than the customs do.... doesn't make sense to me, but that doesn't help since the wife won't give me back the S-plugs
 
My bike has SE slip ons, so it's pretty quiet. I have no trouble wearing an RF1000... IF I wear earplugs. I was surprised at the amount of noise in the FF when I first got it, especially since the RF1000 was supposed to be a quiet helmet.
Taking a ride on an unfaired bike was an eye opener - the helmet was super quiet. I figure the wind turbulence is coming from under the fairing and up through the bottom of the helmet.

As I said - no problem with plugs, and I always ride with plugs anyway.
 
even with stock pipes, the sound is going to be different. i have a 1/2 helmet that i wear 'most of the time', and a 3/4 that i wear sometimes. the 3/4 is like putting a shell up to your ear, it has that same reverberation. i don't think that it is a problem with the helmet so much as it is a 'law of physics' type thing.....

before you trash the helmet, switch out the pipes for stock, etc. try riding with some earplugs in. even if they are just the foamy disposables. it makes a huge difference.

i always try to ride with mine, but i will admit, sometimes i forget. until i get moving at speed, then i remember right quick.....
 
I ride with an Arai FF but always wear earplugs. When I first got the Arai I couldn't believe how bad my bike sounded... I could hear every part moving within the engine and the SE exhaust sounded like straight pipes. I got some custom made earplugs at a bike show and the noise disappeared.
 
I bought a HJC full face helmet when I bought my Buell Lightning in '04.
Not a spectacular helmet , but it did the job pretty well and was fairly quiet.
2006 comes along and the Buell gets totalled , long story , then I get a '06 FLHT.
The FLHT seems a bit loud , so I buy a HJC half helmet so as to look like a Harley rider.
The half helmet is much more quiet , more wind noise , less everything else.
I can hear traffic better and the bike is more muted.
Then I grab a pair of Vance and Hines classic mufflers , and do a stage 1 job.
Bike sounds pretty neat now , so I try my full face helmet for a short ride.
Holy Crap!!! is this bike loud.......
Needless to say , the full face helmet amplifies all engine/pipe/mechanical noise really bad.
I guess I really like the half helmet combo , the noise type and sound level of this helmet makes me more comfortable and I enjoy the ride more with it.
I would try and run your bike for a bit without the windshield and see if this is a comfort level you can live with , as we all know , the full face is safer in a crash anyway.
This was a repeatable sound thing for me also , the full face always sounded pretty bad , even with a short windshield for me.
