Such a dissapointment, what you think ?

Winter coming on decided it was time to spring for that full face I been wanting. Shoei RF 1100. The lid could not be more comfortable, my first cruise was tonight 54 temp. No wind noise. Only one major problem, it amplifys the monster rounds about four x. Seems they make a popping sound that I could not hear without the new lid. Even with ear plugs the sound is almost more than I can take, to make matters worse it sounds like the 96" has a miss fire. It really sounds like crap.
So I wondering a few things is the helmet distorting the actual sound?
Or do the pipes really sound that bad?
Since I have the stage I download what would I do to the motor if I put the stock pipes back on and maybe the stock AC?
If it turns out that it will not hurt my motor these monster rounds will be for sale at a reduced price. Less than a 1000 miles on the pipes.
My thinking was that the stock head pipes are what is causing the sound like a miss fire.
Tell me what you think, a set of head pipes from FM and pcv . May clean up the sound quality but it will still be super loud in the helmet?

Its not just you. I've never ridden with a full face until last year. I bought the RF-1000 and experienced the same thing I tried to enjoy it but it was way too loud. It stayed in the box after that.

Sounds like you need to flip the lid. Tell us what color and size it is, maybe someone will help you break even on it. Don't those have removable and or adjustable cheek pads? Is it like an echo chamber inside your lid? Were you wearing a different helmet before? Or none at all? Maybe riding 2up will kill the noise (for you, anyways!)
Or on the bike end of things, maybe the baffles have slowly deteriated. Can they be repacked with fiberglass?
Your bike looks beautiful, hope you get it all worked out.

I may leave mine in the box before its all said and done its bad. My biggest fear with spending 375 on a helmet was that it was going to have way to much buffeting behind the king screen. I was very happy that it was rock solid up to 70 and only minor buffet up to 80.
Shoei is a great helmet the visor fogs easy but I'm going to fix that. It is metalic black XL . I wore 2x in most other helmets.
This is my first behind a windshield.
So what you think about swapping back to the stock pipes? They were a whole lot softer on the ears most times I could not hear them. Sounds kinda like barking up the wrong tree dont it?

I still have the stock pipes on mine. I like it, except when I'm riding with "the loud bunch". On a side note, your neighbors might also thank you!

I always wear earplugs when I ride, just to protect me from wind noise. Howard Leight Max ear plugs. The best in the business. 33 db noise reduction. It will make the monster rounds more tolerable. In addition, you'll hear cars and things around you better once you're used to the plugs, due to the reduced wind noise.

That said, I can ride my bike with a 1/2 helmet and no plugs no problem. Even with the wind noise and my Thunderheader. I can't even consider riding with my Shoei RF1000 or Simpson Outlaw Bandit full-face helmets w/o using ear plugs. The exhaust just reverberates through the full-face helmets.

It is tolerable with plugs though. With a stock exhaust, and even the SE Nighstick I could ride at slower speeds w/o plugs. But on the freeway, I always have to.

For me, FF's sound the same as putting a bucket over your head.
They amplify everything coming from below.
I always have worn earplugs..... lessons learned from flying.

Same here!..I use a Nolan ff helmet when i hit the road,,Its very anoying.
I never thougth about using earplugs before but with a ff and the monster ovals i guess its a good idea.
