I've had my ups and downs with my addiction vics, percs, blues, hydrocodone. I've relapsed about 10 times. I've been kinda clean if you call clean not taking my drug of choice for 45 days give or take. I have a Dr. who has prescribed subutex. I started taking 8mg, then 4mg, now i'm down to 1mg a day. But I still feel trapped! I know I don't wanna go back to taking vics again. But I feel like I will never be the way I was unless I have subutex. The Dr wants me to get off them but when I try I get depressed, or basically I start having withdrawls. I'm kinda worried that when I go to my next app. he's not gonna give me anymore. I have questions will my brain ever go back to producing what it used to before I abused pills? Are there alot of side affects from subutex? Is subutex as bad as vics? Do people get off subutex if you have an addictive personality? I guess I'll start there

Hi Compton - I have been on suboxone for close to 2 years. My Dr thinks I should stay on it but I have been tappering and I have wondered the same thought as you. I know that in order to get the ol' endorphins working again you need to exercise. I think that is the key to getting off of this stuff. We will need to slowly taper then add a fairly stricy exercise routine tobuild up those endorphins. There used to be alot of folks on here taking this med but they seem to have drifted away. The one thing I know is it is way better to take a little sub then it is to take all those pills. then having to lie to get more.
To straight out answer your question the answer is yes you can get off sub completely. The key is to slowly taper. Even down to taking tiny pieces every other day. Then one day you will be free.

Peace be with you TJ

Hi, I'm another sub taker and I'm currently working on tapering off. Yes, it's possible. But you should not feel bad for taking 1mg a day of this stuff. Isn't it a lot better than taking however many pills you were taking and wondering where you would get more?? That's what you have to understand. Also, sub gives your brain time to heal from the opiate addiction so you can learn to live sober. I sure had to. It took some time, but I'm ready now. You just have to do it slow and go down to as small amount as you can.. then only take it when you start to feel bad.. and yes, exercise is a big part of getting off. The reason we feel bad coming off is because we have no natural "feel gooRAB" coming from our brain. So we have to make them come back. You can so do this.. :) We all can..

g8ttr, I have heard sub is very expensive and not alot of Dr.s will give it to you. I have no insurance and live in a very small town, so could someone please tell me about the cost. Please, I am trying to get off hydros that I have been on years by tapering but I cave every now and then. I want to get off them so bad Thank-you for listening. LOL Fiesty2

Hi,
Suboxone is betterr than Subutex for long term treatment. Having 10 relapses indicated you are not serious or not being treated correctly. With complets abstance
you will revert back to "normal" feelings, emotions, etc. How long it will take is quite variable. One thing is for sure, is that you will always be highly prone to becoming addicted again if you take narcotics.
Good luck.

Fiesty,

You're right about what you heard. Not a lot of Dr's can prescribe it, but you can find one that's near you on the internet.. And the medicine is expensive.. I'll go ahead and warn you about that. And what is bad, is most Dr's that prescribe this medicine don't take insurance anyway and charge a huge amount to just see them. It's a very quick way to make a person rich. I have mixed emotions about the whole thing. I just wish I would've done more research on the medicine before taking it, but I didn't know what I was going to be on when I went to the Dr. I had never heard of it before. BUT, it has gotten me off the addiction path and for that I'm forever grateful..

Good Luck,
