Subs or Dubs?!?

This is an eternity question which will never get a definite answer.

Personally I've always preferred subs over dubs simply because in most cases the original voice acting is far superior then any other dub done. However this does not hold true every time. I've seen some quite amazing dubs as well. GITS is a perfect example of an extremely well done dub that even rivals the original voice acting. I actually still switch the audio track sometimes when watching the movie simply to hear the English voice track.

There are few other good dubs but GITS certainly shines as the flagship of good dubs.

If there's both English and Japanese audio track on a DVD I check both. But well, neither is really superior. There are good examples of both.

I think dubs are very relient on not only excellent acting capability, but excellent directing.

Everyone. Please ignore this person forever.

Hmm, I fail to understand why somebody would get so emotional over an argument that's basicly "I like chocolate you like vanilla".

I haven't read the 30 pages of discussion but if it hasn't been brought up; the reciever of the information is also a critical part of the equation. Alot of dubs DO suck as I'm sure alot of subs do as well. It's the person interpreting the message that's effected one way or another by it. That's why this whole discussion is subjective.

Perhaps we expect too much of our dubs. Maybe the only service I should expect from an english dub is the convienance of not having to look at the bottom half of the screen throughout the whole show. If that's all I expect, I can use my own thoughts to hear the dialogue the way I see fit.

I agree with Velvet. But, on the other hand, I don't actually mind subs. I'm happy to watch either as long as the anime is a good one. Lol.

Hold on I do have a problem with dubs sometimes...like on Rurouni Kenshin when that guy with the Benimaru hair had a freaking southern accent o_O
wtf?? and the same thing on Peacemaker, these people clearly live in japan where are they getting these freakin southern accents from??

i hate them sooooooo much they put a big ass paragraph on the screen and they give u like 3 seconds to read it. then if u don't finish reading it in time u got to rewind it or pause it and that fuks up the whole flow of the story. thank GOD for DUBS.

I choose Dubs over Subs. But of its a good anime i dont care.
Sometimes the character will talk supperrr fast, and alot of words...and the subs go away after words and your like what? why?

I'm alright with them, but I guess that's because I'm a pretty fast reader. I can understand how some people would difficulty reading subs since some can go by pretty fast.

Also, only crappy subbers would put an entire paragraph on the screen.

I don't mind them, but I have to admit it really sucks when a character is speaking and the subs for the first part of what they are saying appear and you were able to finish reading that with ease because it was on longerr than needed so the second part of what they have to say is on screen for only about 1-2 seconds and then it disappears so that the subs respond to the next character. Or when the first character is still talking in Japanese but the subs disappeared ahead of then. Personally the worst I have ever seen, and I don't remember the anime so don't ask, was when I was watching an anime and 2 whole lines of dialog appeared on the screen but I couldn't read any of it in time. So I went back and had to go through the frames to find it. 3 FRAMES!!!!! Only 3 frrames worth of time to read two lines of dialog... wow...

Ive never had any problems reading them myself, usually the better fansubbers give you more time to read them if thats who you mean when you speak of subs.
