See, that's the main problem, they're not.
I'll reply to them all now:
PURITAN ARGUMENT - "big multicoloured text". As far as I can see my subtitles only take about 5-10% of my screen. On HD subs, it's even less. Multicoloured? Depends on the group.
LERN2READ ARGUMENT - 50%? I must be either hyper-advanced at reading, or you're just slow. Just a flick of the eyes, and the text is read. And just in case you wish to say anything about me missing meaning from not properly reading; I assure you that's not the case. Half of the time I feel I'm the only one who has watched the show properly.
AMERICAN VOICE ACTORS SUCK - Half of them sound dry, bland, and entirely uninterested. Then again, that might just be the accent. This is one area where I'm incredibly biased, because the American accent is horrid to listen to. Particularly when I'm trying to be entertained.
And no, this isn't just an excuse for a weaboo attitude. British accents are by far my favourite when it comes to film and acting. It's just a shame our dubbing industry is pretty much dead and terrible when it tries.
I also enjoy listening to; Russian accents, German accents, Chinese, Japanese, Aussie, well, just about anything but the two American continents really.
MISTRANSLATIONS - Both suffer from this. While it's not mis-translations in a lot of cases, there are quite considerable amounts of paraphrasing in dubs and subs. Though, it depends on the quality of the sub group. A decent group will put out decent quality English in their subtitles.
