Subs or Dubs?!?

I'm not opposed to dubs are anything, but holy hell, there are so many god awful dubs. I usually end up going with subs in the end.

99% of the time I will watch a sub over a dub. There are times when the dub voices are just as good or better for me. I kinda have a thing for voices. Music, movies, tv... everything. I'm not sure how you'd describe it though, perhaps a non sexual fetish? I'm quickly going off track but for example there are times in DBZ where goku's voice is just so kick ass it suits the character better than the original.

Also Osaka's japanese VA was beyond adorable and it should be a crime to say otherwise :P

Depends on the quality of the dubbing. There's something about watching it in the original language with the subs, but at the same time I'm lazy and dubs mean I don't have to read. More time to enjoy the anime.

The likes of Ghost in the Shell and a lot of Hayao Miyazaki's work is excellent with english dubs.

I think it's a matter of what you're used to. The people I know that watch dubs grew up watching them, and they're not used to reading subtitles. But I've always watched things in the original language. To me, that's what their voice and personality is supposed to sound like, and anything else is just going to be someone else's impression of that. And I can't help but think of that everytime I see it.

Personally, dubbed anime always makes it feel like an American cartoon. No matter what I'm watching, it always seems like something a six year old should be watching. And, with the dubs, I just think they change more of the lines than they do with subtitles, just because some things sound a lot stranger spoken out loud in English than they do written down.

I'm on the pretty extreme side of this issue, though. If it came down to dubbed anime or none at all, I'd go with none at all.

Judging by what you said and your avatar, that means you actually sat through and survived the Slayers dub. How did you do that without managing to bleed from every orifice in your body?

English dubbed anime hurt my ears. Thats why japanese always make the anime look better. And they somtimes take out some stuff,too..that annoys the heck out of me.

I like to see high quality anime (Miyazaki movies, stuff on Adult Swim) dubbed, cause they usually do a great job with it. Other stuff (Haruhi, Rozen Maiden, esp because of the character's voice characteristics) I watch subbed.

I mostly like subs but there are a few dubs i really liked. For example i thought the outlaw star dub was pretty good. There is only one series where i would prefur a dub over the sub. That is Zoids Zero Century, that was an awesome dub. I would have liked the furorz dub if they changed one of the characters names.

Both...sometimes the dub's have really good voice acting, but sometimes the original is just so much better...i love the dubbed FMA, i think the voice acting is great...but the subbed is good too...

I guess depends on what kind of mood im in?

As I might have said before, Subs are better but with one exception: .Hack//SIGN... it is for all intents and purposes an American anime so it seems better with an American accent to it...

I really don't like any other dubs and sometimes watch anime shows like Bleach in the original language cos I've been learning since before I started watching anime.. reading Kanji though is immensely hard lol

Subs
In rare cases dubs work but I don't have it on anyway since I think it adds a comedic effect...especially in some animes when the dub is horrible, now tha's comedy

Subs all the way, too much lost in translation from sub>dub

hope you never put too much on that bet ^.^ because im assuming you'd of lost!

The Japanese language is annoying and english speaking people attempting Japanese dialog is annoying. But with dub I don't have have to make the effort of reading so I guess that wins.

Gooood question. And the original statement wasn't entirely true. Sometimes the dubs are horribly mistranslated, warping the entire meaning of a sentence and sometimes changing the anime as a whole. It can be ridiculous.

I just can't sit through any sub stuff. I just can't get used to the idea of watchin' a sub at all. The English dub's are fine and the subs can just get so annoyin' Some of the voices in subs sound similar to the dub counterpart but it just really annoyin' to listen 2.

I feel embarrassed for anyone who actually likes and watches sub anime.
Dubs for life.

I can't believe dub is losin' by a landslide in the polls
much like the approval ratin' of Opposition Leader Branden Nelson.
people from Oz will get that joke.
