Subs or Dubs?!?

I started watching the Naruto dub, but then I missed some in the 70's range so I went and downloaded them, now I'm on episode 124... I had no trouble at all adjusting.


No, not at all, I've seen some of my stuff 20 times in each language...
 
I got to give it subs hands down. There are a few good animes that they really thought about the voice actors like FMA and Fruit Basket but not a lot...
 
LOL, what do you think "subs" are? They are translations. I am sure that huge anime companies can do a lot better job of translating than random people on the internet, seriously.

I prefer dubbed animes because I know and speak english and would rather hear that than having to read everything.

I buy all of my anime on DVDs, it is quite expensive, but that is just how it is. I have a collection I can be proud of and I know everything will be 100% accurate and top quality. I also re-watch alot of the series I own, so it nice to be able to just take off the shelf when I want it. I much prefer that to having download everything.
 
No, you're not alone. Sometimes I'm too lazy to watch my dvds twice in both languages. When I'm really bored though, I'd change the language in the middle of the ep just for the hell of it.



Give it a little leeway and say about 98% at least. Only because I share this view:
 
I don't know there have been instances where I've watched a series and the jokes work better dubbed over just reading the subs. In comedy genres delivery has a lot more effect than the words being spoken. Not being a fluent Japanese speaker the delivery is somewhat lost in the subs.

But where dubs fall down is usually inappropriate voices for characters. Watch the dub for Fumoffu vs the sub for Fumoffu. Ren Mikihara's Japanese VA has a beautiful serene calming voice which is in her nature. In th dub she sounds like a character for the OC, obnoxious and crass. Hayamizu's Japanese VA is a strong, solid authoritative voice almost teacher like, the english VA sounds like a refugee from the Fast and the Furious.

I'm really on the fence on this one.
 
i dont know about you, but i seem to hear the dialogue just fine with subs. dubs are only good when you can keep your eyes on the screen. sadly, everybody here fails. RAW!RAW! hell, i only understand 60% of it, but hell if it aint the most rewarding feeling ever.
 
Firstly, dubs don't translate things correctly because they wouldn't be able to have it matched up with the mouth movements and such, plus some of it wouldn't make sence to some americans, the less cultured.
Second, the subs are very accurate, they do an amazing job at translating the dialogue.
Third, you can read and listen at the same time, unless you have some kind of mental issue...
finaly, the good people, download and buy the releases, and most of what we download we download before there are english DVDs.



Its not that hard to guess what they are saying, most dialogue is pretty similar, and you can infer by the video whats going on.
 
No I was assuming that occasionally he/she'd run into massive blocks of video that he'd have NFI what was going on. I mean a word here or there isn't a massive issue but I'm sure there are huge passages 2-3 mins where there isn't enough to complete the scene
 
Come on now. Let us not fight.

I prefer both. Subs for the quality of dialogue and none oddness of vocal cues and Dubs for allowing me to understand the storyline without having to watch the show again.
 
Not true. Some anime companies do a terrible job at translating. Fansubs tend to be the most accurate. They're always done by people that care for the series, unlike the 'companies'.
 
i go back with the subtitles on!
everything is contextual so it really isnt that hard to extrapolate.

only dub i liked was Bebop. that was good.
 
dont mind dargonball, z and gt subbed, it isnt really all that deep.

But watching 1-13 of samurai champloo in subs then 13-26 dubbed. 13 onwards is terrible in comparison the characters seem to change and the voices arent to my taste. Mugen seems to change th most dramatically, seeming to show his emotions more often rather than not giving a crap what people think.
