another thing i have noticed is i do not push myself as much concerning work. I say it is becaus e i am getting older but it may have to do with the lortab.

I think I read you said or someone that they have more energy also. So i think this will be a pro..... vs con.

I am many concerned about the withdrawel. not the drug. if i can tapper and get off of it when i want then i see know problem. I still go to many meetings. aa and na. so that is a plus also.

I'm sorry you got sick. Normally, if you take Suboxone whlie you are still taking opiates, it throws you into withdrawals - this is one of the good things about Sub, as addicts don't want to be dope-sick so they don't take opiates while on Sub. A friend of mine started Suboxone 2 hours after using Oxycontin and he was fine, so it is hit-and-miss with addicts. The dose tonight will probably be easier on you :)

I would suggest taking the 4mg, as per doctors orders. It's not good to self-medicate - or in your case, change the dose (even if it means taking less than prescribed). Your doctor prescribed your dose for a reason. He/she will want to know how it goes, so if you take a different amount, it messes up your doctors plan for you. Make sense? If you are concerned in any way, talk to your doctor, but do not change your dose.

I am so happy to hear that your meetings are going well. That feeling you get when you help a fellow addict is indescribable, eh? My sponsor is a wonderful person. He understanRAB me more than I understand myself sometimes lol.

Like you, I also analyze the chit out of everything :) I can't seem to help it. It's a gift sometimes, that's for sure.

It's amazing how well our doctors know us huh? My doctor said he knew almost esactly when I was going to turn to him for help. I'm blessed to have him for a family physician.

"Life is good today" I have to agree with you on that :) Today, I am taking my six year old daughter out to play baseball, as she starts in a T-ball league on Tuesday. My husband and I purchased a bat, ball, helmet, glove and the T thing you get to let them learn on. It is a beautiful day in Toronto today. I'm looking forward to spending the day outside :)

What are your plans?

utah i didnt talk to my dr about sub i did not know it existed. i went to him for the pain that is my elbow. he is schedualing an mri for that. tendon pulled away from bone. I told him about the lortab because i didnt want him to not know what pills i am taking . He told me sub is for people like us. dont get high. that is a good thing. I do not do the lortab for the hi just for the pain. BUT i do like waht little hi there is. dont get me wrong.

Not a very good hi because of the small amount and I take it as prescribed. one every 6 hrs.

i cant work without something for pain. SO i am just wondering if sub is better since there is no high. doesnt take away energy. those things are good. I like sobriety and the peace of mind I get from it. drugs tend to take away my peace of mind.

I dont like the idea of a pill controlling me and sub seems that it might if I cant get off of it.

Hi jolo,

Well, now it makes a little more sense. If you are taking more than prescribed, then you are abusing your medication. Period. Especially since you wrote that you sometimes take 4 or 5 "not for pain."

It sounRAB like you want to start Sub, but are concerned about everything you read. I was as well, but I kept reading and reading until I felt more comfortable. I talked to my doctor about 10 times before I finally decided it was a good choice for me. Now I am stuck with the possibility that it may be hard to get off of. I'm not concerned, nor am I worried - I just accept the fact that this drug works for me and I'll deal with the taper when that time comes.

I would really suggest you talk to your doctor more about it until you feel comfortable that this is the right choice for you.

The only advice I can give you is to trust yourself. You know deep down whether or not you are addicted. Is Suboxone a good idea for you? Only you (and your doctor) can make that decision. No one else, as they are not you.

Good luck. If you need any more info, I'd be happy to help :)

Sincerely,
emsmom

took four mg this morning and put some anti nausea medicine on my wrist. didnt get sick. will take the other 4mg at 4:00. i think i am over the hump. ill let u know what happens after the second dose

Good morning Jolo,

It makes sense now if you swallowed a bit. I remeraber my pharmacist telling me to make sure I let it all disolve :)

So, you're going to stick to 4mg per day for this week? I hope that works for you. One thing to remeraber, I started out at 8mg per day for the first week, and eventually reached 16mg. That's "the dose" for me, as per my addictions doctor. The patient keeps increasing until they reach a dose that works best for them. So, don't be discouraged if you have to take more.

Regarding methadone, I've heard it makes you very tired throughout the day. My doctor told me that Suboxone was invented to eventually replace it. Research methadone - you never know...it could be something you may want to look into.

Have a great day,
emsmom

i am takng 30 to 40 mg of lortab aday. dr wants to put me on sub. I have been reading here most everyone is trying to get off sub.

I dont understand. I have even read it is harder to gt off sub then hydro. I am very very confused. Am thinking of starting sub tommorow morning. dr said 4mg then in 12 hrs 4mg more. the things i have been reading. got me concerned.

would it be better to stay on hydro and try and not go up with dosage?

i can even go down to three ( 10m) aday with no problem
If i didnt have to work i would not do any thing for pain. I dont hurt that much not doing anything. I am 56.

Good morning jolo,

Well, Sunday has arrived. Have you made a decision? Did you get a chance to do more research regarding Suboxone? Were you aboe to make an appt. with your doctor to discuss your concerns?

Hope you are having a great day,
emsmom

I'm so glad you didn't get sick. I've been thinking of you, just waiting to hear some good news :)

How did the 4pm dose go?

Hope all is well :)

well emsmom, I took another 4mg at 6:00 pm. just like this morning, I got sick an hr and a half later. Throw up till my stomach is empty . I throw up then i am ok. well i turn as white as a sheet also. lol.

Not sure what is the matter. Ill call my dr tommorow, I think he started me out with to much, I have not done that much hydro compared to what i have been reading about others on this site and others.

Like I said this is the longest i have ever done downers. alcohole ws my drug of choice.

the sub is working on the pain though. Not sure if the trade off will be worth it
. I may quit everything before i get hooked on sub,and deal with the pain. Ill see what happens tommorow morning.

I have never done heroin or even oxycontin, I have seen those that have and sometimes they get sick right after taking the pill or shooting up.

hope the dr knows what he is doing. I think 4mg to start with might be enough. I did not go into withdrawals from quiting the hydro. (lortab 30mg aday). I can thank the sub for that I think.
.

well i took 4mg at 6:30 am. 18 hrs after my last lortab 10mg/ got sick lol. threw up two hrs after taking it. went to bed for an hr. I think i will be fine. a little dizzy.

i am not supposed to take another 4mg till 6:30 pm. I will probably take , if any, 1mg or smaller.

Ill keep you posted.thanks for your genuine concern. I am Not looking for a high. just want to be able to work and feel somewhat good. lol at this age i will never feel 20 again

My goal in life, my first one, is to be able to afford not to have to work and spend the rest of my life going to meetings , conventions, and helping people at the same time.

I have found out in recovery that helping people that are trying to help themselves makes me feel real good.

i love life since i have been in recovery and i have a pretty good attitude. A complete opposite of the negative i lived in for my first 47 years of life.

Life is good today.

ps. I am your typical alcoholic addict in recovery, try to analyze the chit out of everything. lol

The dr is smart. He knew I subconsencely would want to take more and more lortab till it became a concern.

Hi jolo,

The decision to take Suboxone was very hard for me. I was abusing Oxycontin for many years, went to rehab and tapered off, but relapsed a few times recently. I was reluctant to start it, as I didn't know enough about it to feel comfortable.

Suboxone helps with pain and takes away the cravings (for hydros, Oxy's etc). You said you wouldn't take anything if you didn't have to work.

It seems to me that you aren't taking a high dose of narcotics. Are you abusing them? Are you addicted to them?

Perhaps your doctor is one of those who are trying to make money off his/her patients. In Canada, Suboxone doctors don't make money off patients they prescribe to, so I'm not sure what the case is for you.

Yes, Suboxone is harder to get off, however I've heard that if you taper slowly, it's easier.

I plan to be on Sub for a long long time, if not for the rest of my life. I am also not worried about what it's going to be like when and if I come off it, cause it has helped me tremendously - but that is me. If you are havings concerns about this drug then don't take it until you have a chance to talk with your doctor.

Also, if you could answer my questions, it would help me guide you in the right direction :)

Good luck, hope to hear from you soon.

wow sicker then ever today. i am sticking to the 4mg. in the morning 4mg at nite. ill give it a couple more days. I think i may be having withdrawels. spaced out and if i dont get up after drinking water i dont throw up. real dizzy .

why do they raise your dosage emsmom. I dont have pain now just sick. i thought it may be that 8mg is too much. throwing up and all. throwing up is not a withdraw symptom.

i am shaky and dizzy hard time even posting a reply. going back to bed

ps . i know this medicine is made for those who want to quit hard drugs. I was doing smalll amount compared to many in here lol. lightweight. But what i am looking for in pain medicine with out the high.

metahdone i thought was for heroin addicts. I wont take that especially if it makes you tired. goes against what i need energy and no pain and no high.

so far so good. I may just experience what you all have been talking about. been a long time without pain and feeling good. hydro never made me feel good just took away the pain

Perhaps you are allergic to something in the Suboxone, but it does sound like you are on a high dose, according to the amount of hydro's you've been taking.

I'd suggest taking 2mg in the morning and 2mg at night. The amount you are throwing up is not right. Something has to change.

Some addicts use Suboxone specifically for getting "off" another drug (a small amount, for a short period of time - 4-5 days only).

Yes, you can thank the Sub for not having withdrawals (from the hydros) however if you are getting really sick, that's not good.

I'm looking forward to hearing what the doctor says.

Good luck!

Hi ems mom. Good morning. The dr said it was normal. The body has to get used to it. He has lots of patients on it and the same thing happend to a lot of them

He said i could be swallowing a little of it too. He is right i do let a little get out from under the tounge.

He said to begin with 8mg is what i should take at the start of treatment for it to work properly.

He said if the 4mg , 2mg in morning and 2 at nite works stay there. I do not know if it works yet or not. Ill take it for the week as prescribed as see what transpires.

I dont have thesweats or chills aches that go along with withdrawel but the fuzzy mind, (cobwebs, whatever they call that feeling) I do have lol. Have to wait till that clears some.

iI am an alcoholic, My dr knows this . I think his drug of choice was cocaine. He has five years clean after many relapse. I have had no relapses in the nine years going on ten that i have clean.\

iWhen i had the hip replacement i make the nurses take away the moriphne because without alcohol mixed with it, I didnt like it. could not sleep for five days.

They sent me home wit lortabs and i took them for a cpl days and threw the rest away. NO drugs for the next seven years. That was five months ago

It got to where i could not work without hurting . ankel, hip,, sholder and elbow hurting to where I could not perform my work.

I took it upon myself to go to the orthopecdic and get the lortabs. three aday at 10mg

I decided at my age 56 i should get a regular dr for prostate test, blood pressure etc. I told him i was on lortab and how many. He knows I am an alcholic and drug addict. althogh drugs was not my preffered drug, an addict is an addict sort of speak.

I have noticed my peace of mind is NOT the same as it was before I started taking the lortab. I got a little hi in the begginning but as we all knowthe tolerance build up. I do not get hi with the three aday. I have not noticed withdrawel because i have not tried to quit. I know what to expect because I have quit xannex and speed and other drug to know what it feels like.

But I do sometinmes take between 4 and 5, not for pain. SO there may be a concern. I was thinking of tapering off them go back to one or two.

Then my current dr told me about the sub. he will be monitering me close.

I think he is concerned I will get hooked on the lortab, he may be right I do not know.

if the sub takes care of the pain and i do not get hi or alter my mooRAB that will be a good thing. However i get scared reading about not being able to quit. I

I never did heroin because i was afraid of it and havent done cocaine either.

SOOOOOOOOOO i dont know I dont know. like you said if i never get off of it then it wuld not matter. If being able to tapper off of it and it be no worse then quitting the lortab i am taking I see no difference and should take the sub.

Then again i may be thinking to much, and do as my dr says,

Hi Jolo,

I'm sorry you are still getting sick. I researched your symptoms and found that you either took the Sub too soon after taking hydro's, or you aren't taking enough.

Can you make an appt with your doctor again - and ask about these two possibilities?

Suboxone is meant for those who want to quit "any" drug - not just the hard ones." It is used as a method of pain relief and helps patients get off of opiates.

I hope today goes much smoother for you. Again, please feel free to ask me anything. I'm happy to help :)

My day just began - I'm off to work. Enjoy your day :)
