Stupid Republican idea of the day

Representative Metcalfe may be descended from the apes like the rest of us, but clearly his evolutionary curve was a gentle one.

Can we add McCain telling the senate he'd never in 20 years seen someone denied an extra minute? Maybe he just wasn't paying attention the time he did so twice in one day in the exact same manner Franken did?

She isn't. Michelle Obama has no legal authority.

The President can delegate any number of Presidential duties as he sees fit to the First Lady. He could just as well delegate them to you, or Brad Pitt, or his cat, providing he isn't assigning them to do a specific job that Congress has to approve, such as secretary of state or a similar post. There are some things he has to do himself and lots of specific positions that require Congressional vetting but things like "Hold meetings on the pet project of my choice" can be done by pretty much anyone he wants. As Algher's cite points out, the Supreme Court has already ruled on what would seem, at least to me, to be just common sense; that the President is allowed to hire people to accomplish tasks, and that if his wife volunteers to be an unpaid employee doing some of those tasks, there's nothing illegal about it and in fact it's been that way for ages. Ultimately, executive authority as stated in the Constitution is still his. He's on the hook for whatever his chosen agents do.

What about Nancy Reagan's 'Just Say No' thing?

I was taught that one can always delegate authority, but never responsibility.

Having said that, I agree that Mr. Obama can appoint anybody to the position of left-handed coat hangers or whatever. He's still responsible for whatever actions (or inaction) his appointee does.

Looks like the traitors that make up the Republican Party succeeded in getting the DHS report on right wing extremism yanked. Here's a (urk) Washington Times link.

At least the reasonable and moderate wing of the Republican Party still has a voice.

And we are using our voice to order another round while eating all of the good nuts from the dish. It accomplishes the same thing, and at least gives us a buzz.

-Algher, not sure who to hate this morning - idiot Republicans in CA, idiot Republicans in DC, or the management of his former company that laid him off.

I once conducted a halting, present-tense only discussion in Spanish with a man from Columbia. "You learned your Spanish in Mexico, yes?" with the faintest hint of disdain.

Not only is it likely that any given Spanish word will mean different things in different locales, we would be stupid to expect otherwise.

Comes after kingdom and before class.

For example, humans are in the kingdom animalia (animals, duh), the phylum chordata (vertebrates and a few creatures with spine-like structures), and the class mammalia. Sean Hannity appears in the kingdom animalia, phylum chordata, and class douchebaggia.

Whoa, whoa -- class aside, are you saying Hannity has a backbone or backbone-like structure?

Broad brush much? Both sides have their ignorant, gullible dingbats. People in this country have been resisting attempts at government health care for many, many decades. This same debate was going on in the early sixties and it was decades old then. So you can't blame modern-day Republican rabble-rousing (tactics picked up from the left, btw) for the problems that exist in getting government health care passed. People have properly been leery of getting the government involved in their health care ever since it was first proposed.

It would be nice if the Republicans could garner public support for their recalcitrance without telling immense lies about what's going on.

Here's what McCain never did:

The PRESIDING OFFICER. The Senator's time has expired.

Mr. DAYTON. I ask for unanimous consent that I have 30 seconds more to finish my remarks.

Mr. McCAIN. I object.

The PRESIDING OFFICER. Objection is heard.

Well, if you stretch the definition of "spine-like structures" to include "things that are covered with spines," he might just make it past the bar.

It's a series of coathangers twisted together to form a stiff braid. Laboriously inserted rectally every morning by Fox News interns.

While I think that Jeb Bush is far, FAR more intelligent than his brother George, and he gives some surprisingly candid and honest answers in this interview with Tucker Carlson, he still can't help but lie when it comes to his brother.

[My addtion: Tucker Carlson, on President Obama] Why is he so popular now?
[Carlson's addition: A flash of agitation.] First of all, who cares? His popularity is no greater

It takes a lot of work, that's why they are always reminding each other. "You're a 'brate American, Sean!" "Well, you're a 'brate American, Roger!"

Remember, you can't gladhand without a spinal cord.

Well, as long as we're including Fox nincompoops, here's their morning show's Brian Kilmeade's take on keeping genetic pools pure.

First they instituted a minimum wage, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't making 25 cents a day.

Then they instituted food stamps, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't hungry.

Then they instituted direct transfer payments for single mothers of young children, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a single mother of a young child.

Then they instituted unemployment insurance, and I didn't speak up, because I'm not unemployed.

Then they instituted social security for the elderly, and I didn't speak up, because I'm not old.

And then they instituted universal single-payer health insurance, and there was no one left to speak up for me.
Let this be a warning to us all. :D
