Stupid Republican idea of the day

This is completely and utterly not correct. In Spanish, negrita/o is an endearment. If it's interpreted as 'little nigger' than it's the interpreter who is at fault.
Maybe you should check Frodo's location.

It's probably worth noting that Carrot accidentally left out a word. I doubt it was deliberate, since you can't C&P the twitter part from the front page of Hoekstra's blog.

"Iranian twitter activity similar to what we did in House last year when Republicans were shut out in the House"

Puts a bit of a different spin on the statement. Juuuust a tad.

(Also, "Pete Hoekstra is a meme"? You're doing it wrong!)

Old stupid republican idea of the day just bought to light. Didn't think it deserved it's own thread, so I put it here.

Tony Blair and the freaking president of Colombia get Medals of Freedom but JK Rowlings does not. And not because she wrote what some describe as mediocre books or that these books lack cultural significance but because Harry Potter promotes and encourages witchcraft.

Please. I try very hard not to imagine three impossible things before breakfast (or any other time of the day!). :D

This isn't snarkiness but an actual question. Did School House Rock mislead me for all these years?

He's attempting to shift the debate. Much like any thread involving Carol Stream of Piss, he's trying to move the debate. In this case, people will think that the bill is near-death, so naturally when they work out the bills they'll have to do something like "Reduce tax for working Americans" (ie. Billionaires) to "squeak it through" (ie. An abstention from Snowe).

The RNC drafts a new resolution to define what a Republican is now.

I think the text of the draft speaks for itself.

I don't feel like starting a new thread, but apparently CBS golf analyst David Feherty decided to slur our military by claiming: "if you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Osama bin Laden, there's a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death." See here for Media Matters link.

Seriously, WTF? Why would anyone in the public eye think it is acceptable to accuse our military of being traitors?

I don't believe that was the intent. I believe the actual intent was something like, "Patriotic Americans want to kill Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid for the manner in whch they've protrayed the war and the military to the American people." Plus, "After bin Laden, they are America's two biggest enemies."

Equally disgusting, in a different way.

Somehow they are killing the whole idea of the Senate. You pass laws with 51 votes. Now they have a standing filibuster which is a misuse of the concept and injurious to the majority rules standard. They have a blanket no vote on nearly every important proposal. Yet they screamed like crazy when the Dems used any filibusters during the Bush years. They threatened to get rid of it with the nuclear option. Now it is their best friend.

No the fuck it isn't!

It's a bunch of bureaucratic functionaries and manipulative, self-serving politicians and legislators who more and more want to increase our taxes and control our lives. (Not that your ilk would find that objectionable in the least.)

We aren't the government any more than a school's student body is its administration.

If that's what you believe (and there's nothing wrong with that, mind you), simple question for ya : why do you vote ? Assuming you do, obviously.

My submission today is S.C Republican Party County Chairmen Edwin Merwin (Bamberg County) and James Ulmer (Orangeburg), wrote in a letter to the editor of The Times and Democrat (the Orangeburg, SC paper) that Senator James DeMint was like a Jew "watching our nation's pennies."

I mentioned this to my wife yesterday. She, not believing that someone could be so dumb, thought that maybe they were going for some obscure biblical reference. Yeah - They could only wish. They went straight for the offensive stereotype.

This sounded so crazy I went to the online website and looked, and sweet Jews for Jesus, there was the proof. And now they've written apology letters. One just kind of apologizes and shuts up, and the other dumber one talks about hearing it as a child and meaning it as a compliment, etc.

Enough of this Republican bashing. GOP Chairman Michael Steele has single-handedly solved the health-care crisis:

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/6/20/744744/-Michael-Steele-Solves-The-Health-Care-Crisis

If it’s an access question, people don’t have access to health care, then figure out who they are, and give them access!

Now why didn't Obama think of that? Huh?

PS Clearly, this is good news for the McCain campaign.

does DeMint really think the most distinctive or objectionable characteristic of Nazi Germany was its overly generous social programs?

No, but he probably believes that they led more or less directly to the death camps and gas chambers.

Well, it makes sense : first you cut them unemployment checks, and next thing you know, you give them free work... which makes them free ! And they didn't EARN any of it ! Then they all vote themselves free ovens, and society breaks down.

That's "fair and balanced" for ya. Bet they don't even apologize.
Every other time this has happened (there have been at least three), they just brush off criticism, citing isolated human error, nothing deliberate. Funny, they never mis-identify Dem miscreants as Republicans.
