Stupid Republican idea of the day

Apropos of nothing, but reading Issa's name always makes me think of a drunk Discworld inhabitant.

"Issa, issa, wossname."

However, I'm very much in the minority over at DKos. Does this senile rant by Miller necessarily HAVE to be interpreted racially?

Add me to the chorus who don't see this as a racist remark. The "globe trotting" link is pretty weak. And Gorilla Glue is a popular, super-duper strength glue with a cool name. Zell Miller may be a nut, but I don't think this is a dogwhistle. Kind of a dumb statement on its own terms, though.

Two trivial stupids in one. An "English Only" conference and a sign showing that, well, somebody needed an English-language spell-checker. Scroll down and look closely at the picture.

Other than that,

"Building The New Majority"

Not with those spelling or reading comprehension skillz, you won't. Apparently no one noticed. Or maybe someone noticed, but thought, "Hell, we spent too much money on that sign and can't get another one quick enough. Maybe no one else will notice!"

How does anybody know what was brought up in the meeting? The claim is that they only waterboarded 3 prisoners. If that is true, it would not have been a subject to inform Congress about at all. The assumption that waterboarding was a big deal in 2002 and the military felt the need to tell about it is unsubstantiated. I will wait until a more complete synopsis of the meetings is released.
The meeting was 7 years ago after all.

Did you read the Charlotte Observer series on this guy? Talk about Robin Hood in reverse.

Well, in fairness to him, at least his victims get some spiritual hope, as opposed to the victims of the lottery, who only get the knowledge that some portion of their money might go to help education. :p

Oh, but there's a simple explanation: it's to give cover to any attendee who's caught having dinner with a woman other than his wife ("It's my nece from out of town").

Basketball players. Dribble much more than they shoot.

Umm...something about aim? Or maybe how he is such a slovenly liberal that he wastes all sorts of precious bodily fluids?

Ooh! I know! He's a potential baby killer!

I win!

Saxby Chambliss of Georgia ran ads that morphed Max Cleland's (a triple amputee from Vietnam) face into Saddam Hussein's and Osama bin Laden's. He won, and was reelected last year. Good job, Georgia.
That pissed me off so much that I travelled from Chicago to the suburbs of Atlanta to volunteer for Jim Martin, Chambliss' Democratic challenger in a run-off election. We didn't succeed because Jim Martin, a good and decent man, has the raw charisma of soup.

I think we should also require Sentate confirmation of the First Lady. Why does the president get to hand-pick who he wants in that position? We really need to vet candidates to be sure they're fully qualified.
Laura, having caused the death of someone, would have been right out. Has any other First Lady ever killed anyone?

Cue Starving Artist: "Hillary. VINCE FOSTER!"

Issa's only motivation is to harrass the Obama's and hope to contrive a political issue that Obama isn't being "transparent" enough. Obviously this has no chance to go anywhre -- it's not a serious or sincere attempt at real legislation (the last thing the Republicans would want is for an future Republican First couples to be saddled with this garbage). It's just about throwing rocks at the Obamas.

Barack should have this guy rendered to some Moroccan shithole for a couple of weeks.

Well, they're talking about how the only waterboarded 3 prisoners, as if that's the only thing that could actually count as torture, though of course thay say it isn't. I'm confident that if you include other forms of torture like "stress positions" and sleep deprivation, the number of tortured prisoners will grow to hundreds or even thousands.

It's just political nonsense. If this is the Burning Issue, if this is the most serious "danger" there is, all I can say is:

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah giggle hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah snort hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah wheeze hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

Apparently we were too quick to ascribe simple naivety to Ms. Jenkins. A month before she made this statement, she "supported a resolution that included the very phrase 'great white hope' in a historical context that made clear its origin."
Link. The resolution stated in pertinent part: "Whereas the victory by Jack Johnson over Tommy Burns prompted a search for a White boxer who could beat Jack Johnson, a recruitment effort that was dubbed the search for the 'great white hope.'"

She later explains this away by saying she did not read the resolution she was supporting. So she's either dishonest or incompetent. Or both. Definitely stupid.

Pass revoked.

It's all perfectly okay for Hannity to do that - his show is not "news".

Besides, Dan Rather got a blowjob.

No, wait, I'm getting my tu quoques confused...
