Stupid joke or actual theft

I actually found a way around this. When it starts, I have the chance to enter the bios. If I do that, and exit again, without saving any changes, I can logon like normal. Thankfully he didn't format anything, but my laptop is acting like a total lunatic more than it used to...

And the password I was referring to is a power-on password. It's a password you have to type in before the computer actually starts up, meaning you can't do jack shit until you type this password... :S

I believe you can reset the bios too, if you can get into it and take the battery out of the mboard.

I think you have to move a jumper too.

If you're still having issues with it, you might want to start a CC thread. In the meantime, I'll throw this suggestion into the mix:

If you have the original OS cd (assuming we're talking Windows) you can run a repair from the cd (after booting from the cd) that will repair/re-install systems files only, leaving your personal data and programs untouched.

Eww... I don't think I want to know about that...

Either way, my father is trying to work on this now, so hopefully it'll start working soon...

I still have to talk to asshat about payments and such...
