I started working at a daycare about two months ago and I LOVE it. Except for the management, but that's another rant.

I've been sick since my very first day on the job. Can you imagine having a head cold and cough for two months?! I've gone to the doctor a couple of times and they keep telling me that it's viral and there's nothing they can do about it. I wouldn't be so upset if cold medicine made me feel any better. But it doesn't. The doctors down here suck royally. I think that half the time they don't know what they're talking about. I only keep going in because we've had kids with everything from bronchitis to pnuemonia to pink eye. *sigh* I guess I just had to rant about it. Thanks for reading.

Unfortunately they are right if it is a virus. You cannot cure a virus, but there are ways to make yourself feel better as your body fights it off. You treat the symptoms. I being a fan of the wholistic/alternative medicine can't even believe I can say that, but treating the symptoms of a viral attack is really all you can do. You have a fever, you take something to reduce the fever including a cold rag on your head and drink water so you don't get dehydrated. You have a stuffy nose, use saline solution nose spray/drops whichever to help clear you up (Afrin is addicting and will stop working the way it should after a while, and it can cause nose bleeds because it weakens your nasal lining eventually. Saline works better surprisingly enough). Rest as much as you can. If anything go to bed earlier so you can sleep longer. your body works the best when you are sleeping.

Being around kids while you are sick is hard to do. Your illness will last longer mainly because your body is getting over worked. But, if you feel you need to be there and cannot take a couple of days off to help your body get rid of some of the viral symptoms, then at least try some of the things I suggested. There are over the counter meds that you may not have tried, but it may just be that it's not what your body needs right now.

Other, more physical things you can try is chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture. You can find out if your insurance covers those in any way and try those out. Both have an uncanny way of boosting the immune system and shortening colds and other bodily attacks. I don't like acupuncture myself, mainly because I just get bored lying there for so long, but most acupuncturist will come in and visit and check on the needles. I also have a very sensitive skin and don't like the occasional small pinch I get, but the feeling does go away once the needles are in. They really are super thin! If you are afraid of needles, there are different sizes that are less threatening that you may find more comfortable. There are some that are so super thin that you will barely feel them at worst. Chiropractic adjustments seem to scare people for some reason, but they feel amazing! It's worth a try to see if any of these other treatments help you out. Don't expect immediate results, but you should feel a difference each time. Or at least talk to the doctor/practitioner doing these treatments and they will explain what you should feel after the first time and when you should be feeling relief.

I hope you feel better soon!

Bitch said the things I was about to say..

but...

When I started at a daycare I was sick often because you got alot of things from the children, you could also try to buy some hand desinfector, that you use when you've changed a diaper or something like that, taking away the dishes etc... that could help
:happysad:

Lyn for some reason I can just imagine you greeting your children like this:

"How's my little germ factory doing today?"

Fuck it, I'm probably going to greet my children that way.

I believe http://www.jbox.com/ has some cute ones.

Hey. thanks for the advice. I already use like a gallon of hand sanitizer at work. Anyway, I went to the doctor and they put me on meds because they didn't think it was a virus and I'm feeling soooo much better already.

Hes been called worse. He used to be crib midget, although when he nursed he was my little chupacabra. I stopped calling him my favorite mistake when he started speaking english though.

I still threaten him by telling him Ill throw him into a dryer with a bag of rocks though. If we're in public people either find this hilarious or disturbing.

and Latex....cute!

My parents would call me and my sister beasts, heathens, barbarians, monkey devils, monsters, and probably a slew (Is that how you spell it? I have no fucking clue, and I don't care enough to look it up) of others loudly in public.

One woman even criticized my dad for yelling "Get back here you little monster" saying it would cause me irrevocable psychological harm to be called that and my dad just said when she's lived with me for several years, then she can criticize what he calls me.

Oh and hellion. That was another common one. My mom's favorite was beast, and my dad tended to favor heathen. Oh and both of them would threaten to spiflicate us, usually in public.

One of my friends in elementary school was the one who taught me and a number of other people the word motherfucker. You have to be in the military to say motherfucker with the correct inflection, by the way. His father used motherfucker as noun, verb, and adjective. I bet he prayed using motherfucker.
Last i heard Robbie (that friend) is over in Iraq, killing insurgents and spreading freedom like a motherfucker......
