I had posted a few times about my 1999 suburban gauge being stuck well over the hot limit. I found there are two sensors OR senders on this 350 vortec. There is one on top of the intake manifold, and one down on the cylinder head between the 1 and 3 cylinder plugs. My truck had overheated, and I actually believe I have a head gasket blown( I bought the liquid to try and fix that)....but in the process my temp gauge went WAAAAY up and never would come back. I just unplugged the sensor/sender on the cylinder head...and it finally went down. Does this sound like I have a bad sensor/sender? I have not been able to connect it back yet to see if it shoots back up...I'm guessing it will. Does this mean the sensor is grounded or junk?...
I had a code telling me there was a misfire in 3. Which is where i found the water blowing out after pulling the plug. I'm guessing it way overheated the sensor right there and killed it...
Unemployed at the moment, so I cannot take it anywhere right now for and tests. There is no water in the oil, checked that first with crossed fingers. I thought it might be a manifold gasket(stupid orange antifreeze..you know) I knew these engines were prone to that. But,
I pulled the 3 plug, which was the only cylinder showing on the code reader...turned it on...and plenty of moisture blew out of the hole(no,not gas)...and it is pretty steamy out the tailpipe. So, I'm guessing I have a minor (if there is such a thing..lol) head gasket problem. I'm going to use the liquid stuff, and keep my fingers crossed on that too..as a temp fix, until I can afford a shop. I have built engines before, but its freakin cold and I have no shop...so it will go to a REAL shop one of these days. I have not put the sensor plug on yet..because, while I'm 5'10"..I need a stool to reach it...and I dont have one here to stand on at the moment...
