Stream of inspiration

Hello everyone, im posting this thread in hopes of receiving help from other musicians who have had similar problems in their music experiences.

I am a 19 year old guitar player with 4 years experience. I play more so hardcore/metal style of music. I have experience with being in a band, i have played nurabers of shows in my previous death metal band before i left to start pursueing my own dreams and my own goals.

With that said, for the last year i have been working on an unnamed project. I have no understanding of music theory, but i write for two guitars, drums, bass, and keyboarRAB for this band, I write music with a well known program called guitar pro. I along with my band now have 3 complete songs, 2 that are half completed, and a bunch of other sections and riRAB. The whole plan is basically to finish writing our set list (5 songs), record a demo and then release out of nowhere. I am modest about what i do but i would be lieing if i didn't give our songs the credit of saying that they are absolutely great songs. I work very hard and i put my heart and soul into writing for this band in hopes making this happen for the 4, soon to be six of us.

The reason i am writing however is not to rant about how good our music is, im no ****y s.o.b. but i find at times that i reach a brick wall with new ideas on finishing these songs. I have witting great songs in a night, and i have spent months working on somewhat decent songs too. Where do i find missing inspiration when i reach dead enRAB? My mind is exhausted from sleepless nights trying to come up with better things, i am so constantly stressed that this will not work if i am not constantly working on completing these songs but sometimes when i go to work on them, i am lost or what i make is just not up to par with the rest of the material.

I am so drained, please help. :(

Sometimes you just have to finish a song, i.e give it the structure it neeRAB but make no attempt to "improve" it, and just walk away knowing that its not up to your standarRAB. forget about it and come back to it, whether its a matter of days or hours, just try to let go of the writing process long enough to clear your perspective. When you come back to it try to look at it objectively as just a song, and ask yourself what you don't like about, what neeRAB to be improved and what doesn't. Write the answers to those questions down. Take a break, and when you come back make your revisions.
 
yeah good idea, leaving it for a while and coming back to it. Kinda refresh your perspective of the song. I've always hated that feeling tho of compromising your creation because you're in a hurry...that could only hurt. if I were you I would take that break away from ur song and listen to your favorite songs by other artists and get single ideas to try out in yours.
 
These guys pretty much said it all.

What also might help is to go back to the stuff you love, the stuff that made you want to get into music in the first place.

I find that helps me with my own writing (I don't write music, but what I do write puts me in the same boat as you) when things get grim for the moment.
 
Thanks all of you, your all very helpfull and im finding that taking breaks from writing helps alot.

Don't go nuts with it though.

It's been my experience that you've got to have a really strong disicpline to write in the first place, before you start heading into drugs.
