Strange TX Problems

Hey everyone,

My mom has a Tungsten TX which she uses alongside whats called epocrates software for work. She is a nurse / surgical coordinator and uses it to jot down notes, schedule things, and lookup medical information.

Today out of nowhere she told me that epocrates doesn't work. When you click on the icon the unit shuts down and then restarts, displaying the Palm logo then the Palm OS logo then asking to set the time. Every time I try to launch the app it does this.

Also, there is a strange buzzing noise coming from inside the PDA. Any ideas on what I can do? I am a fairly advanced computer user but am not too familiar with palms.

Thanks for any help

Michael

Hi, and welcome. I do not use epoceates. I do use sky scape and CogniQ/ Unbound. Never had problems. You might go the the epocrates site, and use the e-mail question fix. I tried to look up the problem for you but got the basic. It sounds like tapping the icon is causing a soft reset, and that in itself usually fixes most problems. Something in the program itself may be corrupted, but before you think about uninstalling, and reinstalling the program, whithout knowing about it she may loose info that she needs. The epocrates site should help you. Russ

I use ePocrates daily at work. If you have her go to the home page http://www.epocrates.com/ click on the ?my account? in the upper right, re-enter her hotsync username and her self set up ID code she can re-download the program any time. It will step you through the installation, and it can be installed right over the old version. I have virtually never had any problem with ePocrates in the past. But Palm problems have forced me to re-install ePocrates and it works every time. If that doesn?t work. Then have her try to contact ePocrates. They have always been most responsive, in my recollection since I have so rarely had to use them.

Also, if you don't AutoUpdate within a certain time period, it might do that--but you usually get a "warning" dialog in advance, then when it expires, you get a message to that effect and an immediate return to your launcher.

In the case that you have, it seems that your epocrates program is corrupted. You can verify it by doing a SYSTEM RESET. Refer to the link:

http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=83,E=0000000000382653970,K=5956,Sxi=5,Case=obj(887)

if your handheld will work fine after doing a SYSTEM RESET, it means that one of your third party applications is causing this reset. In your case, possibly the EPOCRATES program. You would need to do these steps:

1. Hotsync your data to the PC
2. Copy the PALM folder to your desktop (C:\Program Files\Palm\)
3. Hard Reset your device (Refer to the link provided above)
4. Rename the backup folder to backup.old (C:\Program Files\Palm\\Backup
5. Do a hotsync
6. Reinstall the EPOCRATES program (follow the step provided by DRBAER)

:)
5.

This is exactly the same problem I'm having since I installed Avant Go (and subsequently uninstalling it didn't help).

The only trouble with a hard reset is that I wonder if doing that and then trying to install the same bunch of programs will land me with the same problem again?
