Hi,
Ok so, I am a 21 year old female and my teeth are in really good condition, I have only ever had 1 dental cavity and I had my first filling done aged 14. Since she did my filling though, my tooth has never felt right, every now and then since that, I get 'phantom' tooth pains and aches etc..
I did have alot of stress a few years later when I was 16 and I also developed IBS from that, and I believe that I may have started teeth grinding/clenching then (Bruxism)
For the past year now, I have been doing it more and more frequently and I am trying hard to stop but I always do it when stressed, concentrating, even when just watching tv... so I am thinking of getting a mouthguard from my dentist.
Last year I went to the dentist 3 times with severe toothache, jawache and around my ear... I was actually convinced I had an abcess or a severe cavity! She took a good look, did an x-ray, tested my teeth against very cold water... everything was normal and no problems. Now, I have this problem again and I get anxious because I HATE dentists. I have taken a look at all my teeth and I can see nothing different.
At the moment, I had a dull aching feeling, and sometimes sensitive (feels like a raw nerve feeling, like your teeth on cold ice-cream) across the top and bottom teeth, on my right side of the jaw. I tested it earlier by drinking freezing cold water, and having a really sugary drink... nothing even happened, no sharp pain.... so I am thinking no cavity.. again?! I have noticed my teeth are changing shape though, and some pointed teeth, now look a bit flat.. could this be from the grinding? I am just wondering if this could be a 'fake' toothache from another problem than a cavity?
Could anyone give me an idea of what it could be, and what the symptoms are?
I have some ideas like - Trigeminal Neuralgia, TMJ, Bruxism...
Please help, and thank you!
