Strange sensation in chest

Didn't know where to stick this, so I figured I'd put it here.
Anyhow.. starting about four days ago, I noticed an odd sensation in my chest. It's like a fluttering feeling, in the upper middle of my chest near my sternum.
There's no pain to accompany this sensation, and it generally persists for about 5 minutes, off and on. It's not a perpetual thing, and only happens maybe two times a day since I first noticed it.
I've checked my pulse when it happens, and my heartbeat doesn't seem to be irregular.
When it does happen, I do get mild feelings of anxiety or panic, but I believe that to be a symptom of this sensation, not vice-versa.
I am also mildly overweight and my family does have a moderate history of heart problems and a strong history of diabetes/kidney problems. Has anyone else experienced something like this, and if so what was the cause of it? I'm starting to get mildly worried about this, given my family's history.

It could be heart palpitations, usually not dangerous, but you should get it checked with your doctor. It also could be a digestion/GERD problems. Does it happen after you eat? Try not to panic, it will only make it worse. Let us know what you find out.

It happens most often when I wake up, and about 2 hours after I eat dinner.
Gonna go to the doctor tomorrow and find out what's going on in there.
