Strange electrical sensation forcing me to move feet?

Hey everyone. Every now and then, I get this strange electrical sensation in my lower legs, ankles, and feet. It annoys me so bad that the only way to alleviate the discomfort is to constantly move my feet. Thankfully, this does not happen all the time. One time when it happened, I had to go to the emergency room because a nurse on call for my Medicaid told me I may have a blood clot. No sign of a blood clot was found.

What could this be? I have been diagnosed with unspecified arthritis, have nerve problems, and have also been diagnosed as having tarsal tunnel syndrome. I suspect that this is the tarsal tunnel syndrome causing this but I don't know.
 
My husband has restless leg syndrome. I have watched his feet and legs jump, especially while resting. He often says he feels electrical sensations, and sometimes the sensation of bugs ceawling. I used to think that it was only while he was awake. He was in the hospital and on heavy medications for nine weeks and still continually worked his legs and feet all over the bed. I found out that his medication for RLS was omitted and he tore his feet up beating them on the foot board. If this is what you have, it is mostly an uncomfortable feeling but can be treated with medication. If iyou continue to have symptoms you might consider asking your primary care provider for their opinion. Good luck. Alice
 
I also have RLS, it bothers me the most when I lay down for a nap or when going to bed for the night. I was on cyclobenzaphine [spelling] but was taken off but still taking ropinirol. Its awlful to have, could not get by without meds. home sweet home
 
I agree with the last post, my huband can not get any rest without the meds. When I said mostly uncomfortable in my last post, I meant that the sensations are and can be very uncomfortable without medications, but not dangerous. I haven't read or heard of RLS progressing to another condition but without meds can be difficult to deal with. I mentioned that my husband would beat his feet on the hospital bed while he was knocked out because of lack of meds. He does have nerve damage from that in his feet now. Dont let that scare you though, RLS can be managed with medications that will control the sensations you get. Alice12.
 
Hey everyone thanks! How often does Restless Leg Syndrome tend to flare up? I tend to find myself moving my feet around constantly and every single day. However, I have only had that electrical sensation in my feet and ankles once. Is this common?
