StraightTalk E71 setup.... few questions!

Hi there! I come over to you guys from Verizon. I purchased an E71 for StraightTalk the other day at Wal-Mart to hold onto and use here in a few weeks when I use some tax refund to ETF from VZ-Dub. I have not activated the E71 yet, it's sitting in the box at the house.

I am a prior BlackBerry & Android user. VERY new to this E71, and I have a few questions. If you reply, please notate which section you're replying to please so I can come back to this thread for reference...

1. Contacts. I have all my contacts on my G-Mail account. I know you can set up G-Mail as exchange and sync everything. Is it supported with Symbian OS?

2. E-Mail. I have a work email that is an "actual" Exchange server, with Outlook Web Access. Am I able to set this up as an "other" email like you can on a BlackBerry with the mail.xxxxxx.org server name? Also with Hotmail, I figure it's not really "push" but poll every 20 mins or so, correct?

3. WiFi. Have been trying to find a way to set this thing up for the meantime using WiFi only, but can't figure out how to.... for the life of me. I want it to be "Wireless Network off" but still have WiFi.

4. Are there any forums dedicated specifically to the E71?

5. Is there a how-to for any of this? If so, please point me there. If not, please be my how-to. :)

Appreciate everyone's help. Pretty stoked to finally stop paying 100+ a month for freakin smartphone service.
 
This is based on my experiences with an unlocked E71-2 NAM. I'm warning you, I dunno anything about StraightTalk, or their branded E71. Hopefully you'll find some of this helpful to you:

To get Google Contacts on your E71, you can use Mail for Exchange (MfE) [http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=147951], but I'm pretty sure the MfE allows for only one exchange account at a time. In other words, if you're syncing to google, no work email. A good alternative to MfE, especially if you're not interested in up-to-the-minute changes and updates to your address book, is SyncML. SyncML is built in to S60, and Google still supports it [http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=98230]. Since SyncML updates are manually executed (unless you use something like Swim [http://code.google.com/p/bergamot/wiki/Swim] to schedule them. Just saying you can, I never did.) you will help save your battery life. Using SyncML will also free up MfE to sync to your work email.

There is a free app called Nokia Messaging [http://email.nokia.com/account/home.action]. It supports push email for Yahoo, Hotmail, and GMail. Just email though -- no contacts or calendaring the last time I checked. There's also Emoze, Seven, etc.

You can still use the E71 to connect to Wifi even if your phone is missing a sim. There should be a profile called offline.

I have a question about the wifi as well. Wanted to use new phone on wifi prior to registration. Set up WLAN. Entered Router WEP. Everything looking good. Tried to open a couple of sites and got the data package message. Am I gonna have to register it to use it via wifi? Or is there a way thru this. Basically trying to use my own internet service with the phone. Help!! Should I remove the sim? thanks, Steve
