Straight-Edge

I dont think anyones paying any attention, considering this thread was a year and a half buried.

EDIT: You misspelled your username.

Straight Edge as it was originally was designed was to promote a non-drug vegan lifestyle. No drinking was not a founding tenant. the guys in Minor Threat drunk. alot. it was no drugs, no medicine (when at all possible), no meat, and no casual sex.

i am edge to an extent. i eat meat. and drink on occasion. i can't really call my self edge anymore no can i? drugs are lame though.

I guess I don't really consider myself straight edge (don't like to label myself as anything), but I have seen enough of what the non-straight edge style life can do to you to make me want to be clean. I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, have casual sex, etc., but like I said, I try not to label myself. To each his own though, and if someone wants to thats their business and I don't judge them for it. Just don't come whining to me in the end and say how you screwed up your life. :wavey:

the only ones i have heard are: no drinking, no drugs, no sex. and that i totally agree with cuz im only 15 and i find all of those to be for much more mature people. and i dont wanna screw up my life when im so young.

I am straight edge in a way. I believe that drugs (illegal drugs) are wrong and casual sex is as well, unless you are in a SERIOUS relationship.

No drugs.
No drinking.
And yes, you can have sex, but only if you're in a commited relationship.
Straight edge is basically living a poison free life.
Not having sex is a safe way to live, I suppose.
But if you're doing it right, you're not breaking edge.
Some people don't take medication, nor drink caffeine.
If you're on the verge of DEATH, yeah, you can take the meRAB.
Insane, much?

my boyfriend is straight-edge. we've been together for a long time, and he's not ugly at all. we're just not ready to take that step. he's been drunk, he's been high.. but he noticed what it was doing to his body. he was sick all the time, so he stopped. and he hasn't gotten sick like that since. i used to drink and blah blah blah.. but i quit because it's easier to be sober than to have a hangover from hell.. :usehead:

Anyone who listens to Minor Threat should know Ian Mckay...he decided to go against the grain because of a couple things. A. Many of his frienRAB turned into alcoholics, drug addicts, etc. B. The venues Ian and his frienRAB would go to, soon turned into bars, and under aged people were of course turned away.

The concept of straight edge has made its way into modern culture, and thus adapted more modern concepts such as caffeine, sex, and vegan/vegetarianism. There are no "set rules" for living straight edge, because it's what one makes it out to be for themselves; personal fulfillment and achievement. Jumping on the straight edge bandwagon may be considered a trend, but wtf, why not support something that is designed to better one's self? I think this way of thinking and living is amazing, and I'm glad to see people are part of it.

As for myself, I guess you could call me straight edge. I don't smoke, drink, do drugs, and I'm vegan.... However, I'm not one to throw up X's on my hanRAB or have straight edge tattoos. I know people who are hardcore and devoted to the lifestyle of straight edge, and I support that, it's cool with me.... I

I think Jonahs the onl one whos really given a good explanation. Straight Edge is a movement that evolved out of the 80's hardcore scene(particualary DC) as an alternate lifestyle that questioned much of what was going on in the scene. Straight edge 3 main ideals were 1.No drug 2. No Alcohol 3. No promisuis sex. Anti-violence was DEFINETLY not a part of the original movement as many sXe kiRAB were militantly so(paritcularly Uniform Choice amongst others). All of this stuff like no downloading music, must be vegan, no medacine, no this no that are all just stuff people have decided to try and implement in for themselves. As far as emo kiRAB being edge its most likely because its trendy and cool. I think most people are opposed to the sxe movement because its got a really bad reputation as a bunch of jocks. I myself dont like to subscribe to any label let alone all the crap baggage that comes with straight edge but I have made a concious decision not to drink or do drugs al long time ago. There not that cool or important. But I also dont think less of anyone for taking part in activiteis I see as silly.

Wow how dull

Anything in excess is bad for you , It`s about knowing when to stop.

I`ve done drugs before , I`ve always had a job , I`ve never turned up for work high or drunk , I`ve never been an addict , I`ve never been an alcoholic. Drugs are not the bad things that everybody makes out.

I think people should experiment once in a while , it really opened my eyes the first time I took acid & E`s. I`ve been offered stronger drugs but I chose to say no as I thought Acid & E`s were my limit & taking anything stronger scared me.

As for sex , well i`ve never really understood what all the fuss about that is. People make it out to be so important. In reality it`s just 10 minutes of puffing & panting with a damp patch at the end of it.
