Storm 2 on Rogers

So I have been able to get 3G on my 9550 to work, altho not in a way that is very useful.

Under the Manage Connections>Mobile Network Options I switched the Network Technology option to 1XEV. This caused the Storm to roam and there it finds first 1x and then 3G.

I can't tell which network it is using to get 3G because it doesn't tell me, it just says Roaming. But this leads me to believe that it should be possible for 3G to work on the Rogers network with the Storm 2. I've heard from a couple places that RIM locks 3G on this phone to only work in the USA, but then how is it possible to get 3G to work by roaming to another carrier. I tried the browser on 3G for a couple minutes and it did seem faster, much more like the 3G speed I had with my Bold.

This gives me hope that it might be possible to get 3G to work somehow. I really hope Rogers picks up the Storm 3 whenever it finally drops, or else I will be switching carriers.

I have a feeling rogers and att will get the storm 3 seeing the contracts up on the iphone and it seems att and rogers gets almost all the same bb's and from the hands on with the storm 3 it seems like it will be pretty sick

Rogers never really planned on getting the storm. We are focusing on current lineup of bold/curve, and for the touch we are focusing on iphone and upcoming killer android (like the xperia x10 wich is very promising).

If we are going to catch the storm3 when it will come out, i doubt it.

I am for myself a blackberry addicted user, and i might jump out of my addiction to get that x10

Not that Francis is the final word, BUT he does sound like he's up there at Rogers and he's saying doubtful on the Storm3 on Rogers. Of course you always got Edge.

For the Storm 2 to have 3G using GSM, it requires the 2100 frequency. Rogers has that frequency but hasn't and probably won't make it available. If it were available, the Storm 2 would be a 3G GSM phone. Using it on CDMA with EVDO is not 3G, by the way. Don't believe the CDMA propaganda. It's closer to EDGE than it is to 3G.

I tried it and dialed 611. I got Telus. So I'm roaming on Telus. It was great to see 3G up in the right corner of the screen. It solves nothing foe me, though. Who wants to pay data roaming fees?
