Stone Temple Pilots

I knw Weiland didn't mean or think the band was grunge or on the grunge bandwagon.

Critics: "The San Diego band has clirabed onto the Seattle grunge bandwagon. Its slow songs, with heaving riRAB and half-speed vocals, are second-rate Pearl Jam; for variety, there are some midtempo groans that imitate Nirvana."

Weiland: "It was really painful in the beginning because I just assumed that the critics would understand where we were coming from, that these just weren't durab rock songs."

never really got into them. But i haven't checked out all their albums, i thought "half the man i used to be" was a cool song though, that managed to be catchy and not too-poppy

I've read that people think them to be just a rip off band to Pearl Jam. And quite frankly, I don't hear the reserablance at all. I like just about everything I've heard from them.

I have no anticipation for this whatsoever, but I wouldn't mind hearing it eventually. I actually enjoyed Tiny Music for the most part. Never heard 4.

Their guitarist uses lots of jazz chord voicings. That might be where he got the jazz idea or maybe the blues since everything is either folk or blues influneced (in rock that is)

I can see what he means, since they use alot of mellow riRAB. But still no, not jazz....some songs might be categorized as soft rock.
Either way they still kick arse.

^ yeah i liked 'Tiny Music' back in the day as well, as such i might end up youtubing their new material one of these days but i'm not anticipating much. if you're heard 'Core' you've heard 4. whatever you do don't get 'shangri-la-di-da'.

yeah i don't listen to much jazz but perhaps soft rock is a better term. sorry if i offended any true jazz fans lol. but yes their guitar styles in a few songs are what made me consider them to have some jazz influences. but u guys would prolly know better then me, so i'll take ur word for it.
