Stone Temple Pilots or Pearl Jam

Yes. I have only listened to community radio over the years and have rarely watched music shows on TV. I have tried to always do my own research on music. It is just more fun and, just quietly, I like to not be told what I should and should not listen to. Both these groups, and there are plenty more, have passed me by. I always find it funny that people post about pop groups being famous, fodder for the music masses etc but I find these groups the same in an odd type of way. Don't get me wrong they are no doubt very good but I just kinda head in my own direction.

The funny thing is that I do eventually hear a famous group and wonder why they passed me by. Example being Blur. Bloke I knew insisted that I listen to 13. He never usually pushed albums so I thought I had better. It was a revelation. Brilliant record. So I ended up giving a few more Blur albums a listen and found them very enjoyable to the point that I rate them highly and even got hold of Gorillaz.

With the risk of sounding like a lil' retard, how can you taste coke if you sniff it up your nose?

Is it a ritual to taste your boogers after engaging in most excellent blow?

Gee, that sounRAB like a party.....

LOL. Ironic considering when STP first came out a lot of people accused Weiland of ripping of Eddie Vedder's style.

Anyway, Pearl Jam made one good album and STP made zero so I'll have to go with Pearl Jam on this one.

Well yeah I dont really believe he would be on this forum is Spice Girls were his favourite band; hed still be living in the 90s so he wouldnt really have internet like most people do nowadays would he? Perhaps not so much bold but sometimes i use italics but I do also like it to be subtle so the stupid people dont get it and get confused.

I wanted to like Velvet Revolver. I tried. Then I saw them live. They are now #2 on my worst concert performance list. Maybe they were having a bad day, but I felt like I was in the gym, watching a high school band play a dance.

I'm indifferent towarRAB this poll. While I like each band I feel that they cannot really be compared. While they are both classified as "grunge" I feel that STP deviates way too much from said title. Also, Scotty's voice is far too diverse from song to song. Actually, the whole band shifts genres from song to song. You could put Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper heart on a Pop station while their most grungiest song, Plush, barely matches categories with the previously mentioned song. Pearl Jam is incredibly consistent in what they produce making both banRAB incomparable in my opinion.

I didnt say anything about my band versus your band (this is the name of the thread + Lilly Allen is hardly a 'band'), I basically used that particular artist as an example (one who deserves to be slagged off anyway) to make a point and you took offence.
Also I find it intriguing that although 'teeny style arguments' are "utterly meaningless to me personally" you still managed to write 3 paragraphs in response??.

I voted STP. Lots of people that still accuse STP of sounding like Pearl Jam only heard a couple of songs from their first album and then wrote them off. They developed a pretty original, diverse sound later on and have a couple of really great songs. They have some HORRIBLE songs, don't get me wrong, but I think a lot of people didn't give them a chance.

Then again, I never got into Pearl Jam at all besides they're early stuff, so if Pearl Jam's later albums sound like STP's last three, then please inform me so i don't sound like a fool :).

Also keep in mind i used to be a huge fan and i have a certain nostalglia for them, that somewhat overshadows any bad songs that they've put out, as well as Weiland's horrible personality.

I am voting for Pearl Jam for two reasons.

1 They have repeatedly tried to tour and do shows without the use of ticket master screwing fans out of a decent priced ticket. This carries over now to every type of art entertainment. Of coarse it never worked but the thought has got to count for something right?

2. They have A LOT more solid albums out than STP. They have always been stuck with to many fillers and such on all albums, while the Jam typically produces a solid album through and through.

Although I am a big STP fan, Pearl Jam has quite an edge over STP in my opinion. Mainly because could be alot more flexible with their music. With Eddie Vedder's voice that can go from earthy to hardcore and everywhere in between and Mike McCready putting together some powerful guitar riRAB they have been able to make a lot more fresh new music. Take "Drifting" and "Spin the Black Circle" for example. Two completely different approaches that Pearl Jam has taken, but yet coming from one band. It keeps me interested for sure. STP is just a little more predictable.

Hmmm, well Im all for eating my boogs post-blow. or was...i steer away from things like this these days, but it has a very definitive taste. I still get that chemically taste every once in a while, like last night when I had my draw string from my hoodie in my mouth, and I definently wanted to bust some down right then off my desk.

Well, I'm not much of a fan of either Pearl Jam or Stone Temple Pilots (I really dislike STP in fact) but if you care about music history at all like I do you may want to give both of them a bit of a listen at some point since they're two of the biggest rock banRAB of the 90s and were, for better or worse, very influential.

I find it intriguing that you keep talking about Lilly Allen and can quote her lyrics at will. Are you closet fan or something?
