I started getting this crampy ache pain on my left side right below my ribs toward the middle of my stomach area a few yrs ago. I went to my regular Dr and he said it was Acid refulx and put me on Nexium. It went away until last year when it came back. It would come and go. It's back now. I'm still on nexium which is helping with the heart burn but not other stuff. I get that achy cramp on the Right side now too. and it goes toward my back. I've had my Gallbladder out so it's Not that. I didn't have it at all today Until I ate lunch. I was running low on stuff to pick from to eat for lunch so I had lasagna leftovers from last night and a salad. It feels like when you've been Running and get that Stitch in your side. kwim? feels just like a Stitch.
I also get that lumpy feeling in your throat like you're going to cry kwim? and the Hiccups a lot.
Can Anyone help?
I have an appt with a Gastro dr in 2 weeks. Thanks

I know its simple, but have you tried the anti gas pills that contain simethicona (Phazyme etc)

Another good one is Biroschi.... its a fizzy antacid, add a spoonfull to a glass of water and drink while its fizzing..... you quickly do a big belch, and feel instantly better

A dose of antacid should relieve it in minutes if it is reflux - if it doesnt, then its likely to be somthing else. Any antacid should do, Tums, Mylanta, Mallox etc

If the pain gets worse, or stays, I would call your doctor, firstly to make sure that there isnt a seriosu cause for your pain, and secondly to get some relief!

I second this. Whether I have heartburn, nausea or fullness, a liquid antiacid like Mylanta or Gaviscon will relieve symptoms within ten to fifteen minutes.

I also don't know if you might need digestive enzymes once your gallbladder has been removed. I assume the gallbladder supplies bile and other enzymes for digestion. Removing the glallbladder is necessary if it gives you too much trouble, but I am sure it serves an important function for digestion.

Maybe these are questions to ask your gastroenterologist when you have the appt.

I had my gallbladder removed and had trouble with digestion - I am on Welchol for bile absorption but I have tons of gas and belching. Does Digestive enzymes help with that???? All the over the counter medicine doesn't work. I have been tested for everything and they couldn't find anything wrong. So I am assuming that having your gallbladder causes gas no matter what food you avoid. I bought a bottle of digestive enzymes but didn't try them yet???

No I haven't tried any of those. I did take 2 extra strength tums last night and it seemed to help. I took Mylalox the other night and it helped too. So maybe it is acid reflux? Just doesn't feel like it kwim?

It might be simple indigestion or gastritis.....but having said that, what name you give isnt realy so important as finding somthing to relieve it.

From what you've said, antaciRAB seem to help, so its likely going to be a matter of trying several different types to see which one suits you best.

I realy like Biroschi (but of course, you might hate it!)

Keep your doctor informed of what you're taking, how often you get the symptoms etc, so that s/he can intervene or prescribe if they think they need to.

Best of luck!

I take digestive enzymes when I eat a meal. They help a lot - make sure you get one that has ox bile in it. Very good for those without gall bladders any longer. You can still have stones as they are/can be produced by the liver now that - the gall bladder is no longer there to condense and store excess bile. I can definitely tell the difference if I miss a meal without the digestive enzymes. It is not a cure all, as we GB free folks need to watch our diets now - but it does make a difference for me. The belching for me is less with the enzymes too.

Thanks everyone for all the help and suggestions. I'm so ready for my appt on the 29th. I had an earlier appt but my Husband ended up having to have urablical hernia surgery yesterday. And then the Gastro Dr i'm going to see is off work next week soo I have to wait. Today I felt really good. No real upper abdominal pain Until later this evening and that's also when I realized that I have heartburn too! Why heartburn when i'm on nexuim? I have no idea. I know i Really Really need to lose weight cause I know that would help a Lot. Oh and quit smoking. lol
